6 Healing Fats in the Bible Diet for Weight Loss

Are you confused about fats and losing weight? Is there really such a thing as healing fats in the Bible?

Since the 1960s, fat has been given a bad rap and we’ve seen an alarming increase in obesity and diabetes. If it’s low fat, what’s the problem? In man’s attempt to “do it better” than God, we plunged ourselves into a dark age of fear of food. God gave us instructions on what to eat and what not to eat – and how much to eat.

Let me share with you what happened to our fats – why we are confused and 6 healing fats in the Bible to eat and lose weight. Let’s get started and shed some light on this very important topic.

How does fat help you lose weight?

Deuteronomy 8:7-10 (paraphrased)  For the LORD thy God is bringing you into a good land, a land of wheat, barley, vines, fig trees, pomegranates a land of olive oil and honey. When thou hast eaten and are satisfied – thou shall praise the Lord thy God for the good land he has given them.

We too will be satisfied – not confused –  when we eat the foods God gave us, but problems will continue to rise when we try to redefine Scripture or our food.

Unlike the low-fat diet craze would make you believe, eliminating healthy fats out of your diet actually causes excessive weight gain and keeps you hungry.

On the other hand, healthy fats help you lose weight by:

  • Makes you feel satiety, (satisfied and feeling full longer).
  • Satisfies your taste buds.
  • Fulfills the needs of your hormones – which when unfulfilled leads to overeating.

Knowing this we can all breathe a sigh of relief and enjoy an ounce of pleasure as we realize this all comes back to the Three Principles taught in the Treasures of Healthy Living Bible Study.

  1. Eat the foods God called food
  2. Eat the foods close to God’s design before altering
  3. Don’t let any food become your god. – Don’t be addicted.

What are high-fat foods to avoid?

Professor of nutrition at Harvard – David Ludwig proved the fallacy of this teaching. He said, “Despite eating less fat, we are fatter than ever before.”

That’s because to replace fat and make food more palatable, low-fat foods are made with refined carbohydrates and sugars and “hidden” fats. This has had a direct link to the alarming obesity epidemic as well as the increased fear of food.

When we look at the fats found in scripture, they aren’t just any fats, they have something in common. They are in fact healthy fats.

Nutritional science now only confirms what God said was good food for us as well as what is damaging to our health.

There are fats we need to avoid – they are altered beyond God’s design – therefore not for our health benefit.

Let’s look at some examples.

Trans Fats – Partially Hydrogenated Fats

Trans fats are vegetable oils that are heated and hydrogenated to change it from its liquid state into a solid form. Foods high in trans fat include margins, pastries, cakes, cookies, donuts, fried foods, icing, etc.

Avoid any foods that say they contain trans fats and hydrogenated oils on the nutrition facts label. Even if something says it doesn’t contain trans fat, it may still be using hydrogenated oils!

Foods High in Saturated Fat

Saturated fats are known as being an “in between”, (good vs bad) fat.

It’s responsible for the construction of cell membranes, key hormones and serves a transporter of fat-soluble vitamins.

When there is a deficiency of good fats in the diet, that’s when saturated fats step up to fill the role. Foods like bacon, beef, hard cheese, milk, fatty meat products, altered fats like “I can’t believe it’s not butter” and pork have a higher amount of saturated fats.

Saturated fats considered good include organic or raw butter, coconut oil, and palm oil. However, animal and dairy products produced organically are proven healthier than conventional means. Consume saturated fats from healthy sources and limit your consumption.

The Healing Fats in the Bible

Going back to Deuteronomy, God shares to the people through Moses that this land they are going to enjoy is already prepared with good foods – including the oil of the olives.

What makes these fats so special?

Healthy fats:

  • Improve brain functions
  • Lowers high cholesterol
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Improve liver functions
  • Stimulates fat digesting enzymes
  • Reduce production of gallstones
  • Improves elimination of toxins
  • Improves athletic performance

Amazing! God knew exactly what he was doing when he instructed us on what to and not to eat.

Here is a list of 6 healing high-fat foods found in the Bible.

1. Olive Oil

Deuteronomy 8:7-8: “For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land—a land with brooks, streams, and deep springs gushing out into the valleys and hills; 8 a land with wheat and barley, vines and fig trees, pomegranates, olive oil and honey; and honey,”

God said the land was good. Olive oil is mentioned over 400 times in scripture with health benefits and for anointing.

Check out the Youtube video referring to this highly healthful oil.

Olive Oil Health and Weight Loss Benefits (1):

  • Strengthen cell membranes.
  • Retard cancer growth. (2)
  • Lower bad cholesterol and triglycerides. (3)
  • Reduce the production of gallstones.
  • Have healing and anti-inflammatory effects.

  • Improve brain maturation.
  • Stimulate the production of fat-digesting enzymes in the pancreas.
  • Protect against ulcers.
  • Help prevent constipation.
  • Aid normal bone growth.

Storage Tip:

Because olive oil is very vital, store in a dark glass, stainless steel or tin container placed in a cool, dark location.

2. Nuts

Eat them raw, (uncooked), unless you toast them yourself right before enjoying.

Genesis 43:11: “Then their father Israel said to them, “If it must be so, then do this: take some of the choice fruits of the land in your bags, and carry a present down to the man, a little balm and a little honey, gum, myrrh, pistachio nuts, and almonds.”

These foods were valuable and even used as gifts.

  • Help diabetes
  • Lower total cholesterol

3. Avocado

Adding avocado into your diet has some serious health benefits.

Genesis 1:29: “And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you, it shall be for meat.”

Containing more potassium than bananas and nearly 23 vitamins and minerals, avocados are incredibly nutritionally dense fruits.

Health Benefits and Losing Weight (5):

  • Great for the hypoglycemic.
  • Helps with fatigue and urinary tract infections
  • Supports a healthy nervous system
  • Good source of healthy fats

4.Fish

Leviticus 11:9-10: “These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat.

10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you.”

Scaleless fish and all shellfish are scavengers, the “garbage containers” of the waters and seas. God created these animals to clean up the waters.

However, there is a vast variety of fish that fit the description in the scriptures such as perch, salmon, tuna, flounder, cod, trout, herring, mackerel, bass, and pipefish.

Lose Weight and More Benefits from a Fish Meal a day (6):

  • Thins the blood

  • Fights inflammation – especially arthritis (8)
  • May help with menstrual cramps
  • Prevents mood swings during postpartum
  • Helps regulate the immune system

5. Grass Fed Organic Butter

Raw, grass-fed butter is best, containing good saturated fats. You can also make your own from the cream of natural whole fat milk.

We can indeed find butter in the Bible, describing it as creamy and smooth.

Proverbs 30:33: “For as churning cream produces butter, and as twisting the nose produces blood, so stirring up anger produces strife.”

Psalm 55:21: “His speech was smoother than butter, But his heart was war; His words were softer than oil, Yet they were drawn swords.”

Health Benefits:

  • Better for Heart Health
  • Excellent Vitamin A Source
  • Energy-Boosting and Appetite-Suppressing MCTs
  • High in Anticancer CLA
  • Rich in Vital Cholesterol

6. Yogurt

Full fat yogurt is an excellent source of healing fat.

Genesis 18:8: “And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat.”

This was what Abraham fed the angels.

Health Benefits:

  • Has bone-building calcium.
  • Prevents colds.
  • Prevents allergic reactions.
  • Helps fight cancer—specifically colon and breast.
  • Strengthens the body’s immune system.
  • Lowers bad cholesterol levels.
  • Prevents dangerous intestinal infections.
  • Improves bowel function.
  • Prevents gas and bloating.
  • Is a natural antibiotic
  • Blocks ulcers
  • Destroys E. coli and Salmonella
  • Contains Tryptophan, which can act as a mild sedative; but for some reason, the tryptophan/yogurt combination perks you up rather than slows you down.

How many grams of fat should you eat a day to lose weight?

Counting calories is another vise given to us by the industries that keep us changing our diet.

Rather, we should eat natural, unprocessed foods that take time to digest and that deliver energy to the bloodstream slowly instead of all at once the way processed carbohydrates do.

Counting grams is not always necessary but it can help to see visually what constitutes the right amount per day.

A 1,200 calorie diet would have 300-420 calories from fat which would equate to 33-47 grams of fat.

A healthy diet should include healthy fats to boost satiety, not only will this make it easier to cut the fat but you’ll get to experience the many health benefits that come with them.
