Bible Barley Cakes Recipe

Enjoy reading stories from the Bible such as the story of Ruth and Boaz as you serve these delicious barley cakes to your guests!

These cakes are on the sweet side and go well with any meal or celebration. Barley is one of the 7 foods of the Promised Land and reminds us of God’s promises, provisions, and grace!

Nutritional Benefits of Barley

Barley is packed with vitamins and minerals. It is a rich source of fiber, selenium, and manganese. Additionally, it contains a notable amount of vitamin B1, magnesium, phosphorus, chromium, and copper.

Because of the high fiber content in barley, this helps lessen hunger. The beta-glucan in barley is a soluble fiber that promotes satiety and a feeling of fullness.

Beta-glucan also forms a gel-like material in the gut. This promotes the absorption of nutrients and a healthy digestive system. Another benefit of beta-glucan is its ability to reduce the bad cholesterol in your body. This type of cholesterol binds to bile acids, which is then eliminated through the feces.

Lignans are also widely available in barley. This is a group of antioxidants that helps to lower your risk of heart disease and cancer.

Delicious Barley Cakes

These cakes are customizable and other optional ingredients would be cinnamon, raisins, or mini chocolate chips!

Freshly milling the flour makes these taste very fresh and better than any bread from the grocery store! Having your own mill such as the Nutrimill or the Mock Mill gives you the most nutrition out of your grains. I share more about milling your own flour on my Peanut Butter Cookie recipe!

Barley grains can be purchased at specialty stores and even pearled barley can be milled for this recipe.
