Health Benefits of Apples - Why are They Good For You?
Remember the old adage “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”?
It’s true in every sense because apples are packed with nutrients that they keep you healthy and thriving.
This nutrient-dense fruit is rich in fiber - pectin, soluble, and insoluble. In fact, the fiber you can get from apples is higher than several other fruits on the planet. This is an important nutrient that regulates your blood sugar level, keeps your digestive system healthy, facilitates toxin removal, cleanses the liver, and promotes weight loss.
If you are trying to shed some pounds, snacking on an apple is a far better option than heading to the pastry shop. With the high fiber content in apples, this keeps you satiated longer while giving you numerous vitamins and minerals that no cookie or doughnut can ever give you!
And here’s a cool fact about pectin…
This type of fiber is actually what slows down the digestion. So after eating an apple, it gets digested slowly and releases energy and nutrients to your body in a gradual manner.
That’s zero sugar crash, unlike the nasty food coma-like effect you can get after devouring a box of cookies!
You can read more about the amazing benefits of eating apples in one of my previous posts. There’s something there about what apple does to your hormones, too, which is quite interesting.
What’s Special about this Fresh Apple Cinnamon Cake?
First of all, this apple cake recipe is gluten free.
If you have gluten intolerance, then this recipe is perfect for you.
I use the Bob’s Red Mill Baking Flour, which is gluten-free, although you can also make your own gluten free flour such as oat flour. I have a tutorial on how to make that flour fast and easy, and I recommend that you check it out!
Honestly, I prefer to mill my own flour because it keeps my recipes fresh. Milling it yourself is also a cheaper alternative to store-bought flour.
I suggest that you mill a small batch, which you intend to use in your recipe. After all, with a portable flour mill in your kitchen, you can have a good amount of freshly-milled flour in seconds!
Fascinating Texture, Flavor and Nutrition to Your Apple Cinnamon Cake
Another thing that’s great about this recipe is the high quality ingredients I use here.
For instance, I add some chopped walnuts to add a nice crunch in every bite. You will love the beautiful texture that these nuts will give to your cake.
But most importantly, they’re super nutritious! Walnuts are loaded with good fats that are beneficial to your cardiovascular and brain health.
To save you time in chopping your walnuts, you can get yourself a powerful mixer that is actually one of my favorites in the kitchen.
The Nutrimill Artiste is a workhorse that is space-saving at the same time. It is not bulky at all but it can definitely get the job done fast. You should check it out and discover how this awesome machine can help you make cakes, pastries, sauces, and many more!
I also use a special kind of salt for this fresh apple cinnamon recipe to add flavor to it. What I like about this salt is that it is all-natural and organic, which will make you feel good each time you sprinkle it to your dishes.
Speaking of feeling good…
A Secret Ingredient that’s Unique in This Recipe
Now, are you ready to know the best thing about this fresh apple cake recipe?
It’s packed with protein and fiber!
We all know that there’s already plenty of fiber and protein from the walnuts and apple and the flour…
But I elevate it some more by adding protein powder to this zesty cake.
I use two scoops of chickpea protein powder, which is my absolute favorite.
What it does is it helps your digestive system by keeping it healthy to enhance digestion, absorption and elimination processes.
