Last year I began the Biblical Nutrition Academy podcast. The questions began pouring in, so several months ago I made Saturdays Q and A day. Now, I’m bringing those questions to my blog, because I’d guess many of you ask the same things. And today, we’re starting with questions about fasting.
Before we dive into the fasting questions I’ve received, let me ask you a few.
- Have you ever fasted?
- If so, did you fast for a short (1 day) or long (21-40 days) period?
- Do you make fasting a regular part of your routine (otherwise known as intermittent fasting)?
- What benefits have you received from fasting?
- What do you know about fasting?
- Would you like to know more?
Fasting is found throughout the Bible and spoken of as if it were common knowledge among God’s people. There was an expectation that they would fast. Jesus himself said, “when you fast.”

Fasting: A Valuable Tool for Health
Yet, fasting has become a lost discipline in the lives of many Christians. Often, a believer can go decades, or even their whole life without hearing about fasting or being encouraged to practice fasting.
However, over the last couple of decades, the medical world has realized the benefits of fasting and the concept has made a comeback, albeit in a secular fashion.
There are many physical and spiritual benefits to fasting, giving us a cornucopia of reasons to engage in this discipline.
Still, even when people know about fasting and the great benefits of it, they hold off. Often, this is due to a lack of confidence or presence of doubts.
Instead of letting these mindsets stop you, let today be an Amen Day!
Embrace fasting and the amazing changes it can make in you.

Answers to Questions about Fasting
Here are the common questions about fasting that you may want to know to get started.
1. How hard is it to fast?
This is a great question I often get asked. The answer depends on a variety of factors. However, it starts in the mind.
Like with weight loss, eating healthy, or living a healthy lifestyle, fasting isn’t a food issue. It’s a belief issue.
Food is a huge part of life. We need food to survive and thrive, but too often food becomes a central focus in our lives. Food addiction is a huge problem in our society.
Fasting is one tool that helps break the stronghold of an unhealthy relationship with food.
We’re forced to change poor lifestyle habits when we fast.
Fasting starts in the mind first.
Daniel made up his mind to fast, or in his case to not eat the king's food, before he proclaimed it.
Is it hard? Yes, it can be. But, YOU CAN DO IT!
I have several videos to help you through fasting successfully and we also have a course on fasting for spiritual and physical strength.
It will be hard the first time. Just as our muscles ache when we first work out, our mental muscles will ache when we want to eat and realize we’re in a time of fasting.
Yet, the more we do it, fasting regularly, the more our bodies adjust. Eventually, we’ll look forward to it!
The results will amaze you.
So if you start and say, “Annette, you were crazy. I can’t do this,” remember that’s a sign of a food addiction or a habit your mind doesn't want changed.

Next, try from 5 pm one day to 5 pm the next. That’s a 24-hour fast.
When you feel good about that fast, move up to a 36-hour fast, which is missing meals for one complete day.
And advance from there.
Fasting has physical benefits, but it’s spiritual benefits far outweigh the physical.
This opens the door to a new discipline that has been forgotten in our churches.
You are about to see God in new ways.
You are going to be blessed.
2. Do your nutritional guidelines work with intermittent fasting?
Here's a question about fasting that someone asked me:
I started fasting last year during Rosh Hashanah and discovered it made me feel good in both a physical as well as the expected spiritual way. I've started incorporating it into my daily life. Will your nutritional guidelines work into this lifestyle?
Yes!
What I teach is not my rules, but the simplicity of God’s design.
The three principles of health living are:
- Eat the foods God called food for us.
- Eat them as close to His design as possible.
- Don’t let any food become an addiction.
These simple principles fit everyone, and fasting fits in perfectly. Especially since it helps us break food addictions.
Eating healthy is a physical preparation for what’s to come.
Fasting is a time of spiritual preparation for what’s to come.
Eating these foods brings healing physically.
Fasting is for healing, as it allows our body systems to take a break from their hard work (often overtime work!) and rejuvenate.
In this program and group, I encourage participants to fast 3 meals per week. This keeps us focused on eating only when we are hungry, stopping when we are satisfied, and also keeps us focused on the benefits that result from fasting.
This is a great way to start fasting and prepares the heart, body, and mind for longer fasts.
International author Annette Reeder shares how Scripture and nutrition intimately coincide with these timeless books about the Bible Diet, Daniel Fast, and more!
3. What happens to my muscles when I fast?
Experts say different things. One says if you exercise while fasting you will keep most muscle. Others disagree.
You are correct. There are numerous experts with widely varying opinions.
Whenever we have questions about life and health, God’s Word is the best first place to look.
What we see is Jesus fasted. Moses fasted. The entire Israelite nation fasted during Esther’s time as queen.
Muscles are building and working every day.
We have been taught to eat continuously, even up to 6 times per day. Our muscles don’t need this much fuel. They need a healthy supply, but can also draw from reserves when we’re fasting without a wasting effect.
Every day you want to be strong is a day to exercise.
I don’t think anyone fasting for 40 days would feel like running a marathon, and yet, I wouldn't be surprised if they did.
Our bodies are remarkable and they like to give us what we’re working on.
When we exercise we’re helping our body remove toxins and build strength.
During a fast is no time to skip exercise.
Remember, no matter what you’re eating or fasting – only exercise on days you want mental clarity, muscle strength, and removing toxins.
Questions on Fasting
I hope the answers to these questions have encouraged you that fasting is possible for anyone. It doesn’t mean going without all food or without certain foods for an impossible period of time.
Fasting is a sacrifice, but that’s where the change comes from.
God loves you and has provided fasting as one of the many resources He’s provided for us to live an abundant, vibrant life.
I’d love to hear your questions on fasting and how God has used fasting in your life.

You’ve heard of a Health Savings Account (HSA), but have you heard of how to build a Health Account?
This is the foundational idea for everything I do: helping others learn how to have a vibrant, joy-filled, abundant life through building health.
Have you ever dreamed of a bank account that would allow limitless travel, shopping, and adventures? How would it feel to buy for others without regard to your bank account?
That is an example of a bank account I want to teach you about. And not just any bank account but a Health Bank Account.
Having the health to be on mission, to travel, to be involved with your family.
Many of us desire to live abundantly and generously without worrying whether or not we have the money to cover the expense. Only a small percentage of people ever achieve this goal. With hard work, diligence, and small sacrifices along the way, this goal can be achieved.
Not only in your bank account, but also in your health account! Let's look at all the tools we have to build a healthy bank account.
What Is A Health Savings Account?
A Health Savings Account allows people to transfer money from a paycheck to a special account that’s used for reimbursement of medical expenses before the income is taxed.
There’s a “pay ahead” mentality that results in more money in a bank account over time since the money isn’t taxed. This investment is a blessing when a health crisis occurs.
What about a health savings account that paid ahead and helped you avoid a health crisis?
When we invest money in our bank account, it grows.
When we invest in good health daily, it improves.
We can enjoy a more vibrant, energy-filled, joyful life. That’s the health savings account I want to teach you today.
It thrills me to show you how to have a health account that overflows with abundant deposits and watch your health account balance grow and grow and grow.
We all have experienced or know someone who’s experienced the costs of unhealthy living.
Has there ever been a time when you wanted to do something but your health prevented it?
Going on a mission trip
Having plenty of energy to do activities with your kids and family
Waking up alert and in anticipation for the day ahead
Not wearing out halfway through the day
Taking that long hike or bike ride
Fitting in every seat comfortably, whether on a plane or a roller coaster
Experiencing freedom from consistent aches, pains, and inflammation
Let’s say, “No more!” And as I teach in the Inner Circle Coaching group to say: That’s not me anymore!

How to Invest in Your Health & Build a Thriving Health Account
I learned about depositing into my health account years ago. It has paid dividends ever since.
Maybe you’ve heard my story before - either in blog form or video - but perhaps not.
My husband and I faced a health crisis and were tired of being sick and tired.
We decided to stop overdrawing our health account and instead start making great deposits every day.
Not only did I lose 60 pounds, but I gained energy, zest for life, and more opportunities to fulfill God’s mission for me than I could imagine.
Building a Health Account - The Basics
Today we’re going to use economics 101 to help us understand health.
Do you know someone who lives paycheck to paycheck?
What happens when the car breaks down or a hot water heater springs a leak or an unexpected medical emergency occurs? These bills can be $600 or $6,000 or even higher.
How long will it take them to recover from this set back?
2 months
4 months
6 months
12 months
Several years
Crises like these can set a person or family back for a long time. Unfortunately, scenes like these take place everyday in many people’s finances.
However, it’s happening even more frequently in regards to health.
Our bank accounts reflect how well we manage money. Energy, health, and vitality reflect how well we’re managing our health account.
Medical experts say that in the coming decades the most important determinants of health and longevity will be the personal everyday choices made by each individual.
How Healthy is Your Bank Account?
Every day, we make choices:
How we’re going to live
What we’re going to spend money on
How we’re spending our time
All of these choices are going to determine how long we live and how well we live.
We make these choices, not our doctors, spouse, kids, or employer. Choices that can diminish or build our health account.
So, if we want to get paid, we must choose to go to work. There are not many of us who can pay our bills without choosing to go to work.
The same is true of our health: We make choices each day that will bring money into our health bank account or make withdrawals.
Let’s look at these choices.
Food
When we choose foods designed by God for our enjoyment, this builds health.
Dr. Rex Russell introduced me to these 3 principles years ago. The stand as reliable standards that make rich deposits into our health account. These 3 principles are:
1. Eat the foods given to us by God
2. Eat the foods in the way closest designed by God
3. Don’t let any food become an addiction.
Exercise
Moving our bodies is very important for everyday health.
Many experts suggest getting a minimum of 20 minutes of exercise a day.
This can be a brisk walk, an hourly getting up and walking around the house or office for 5 minutes, hitting the gym, or playing a sport. Even waltzing your spouse around the living room or ballroom floor counts!
The point is to get muscles moving and the heart pumping.
There are all sorts of apps and devices to help with reminders and keeping track of exercise and celebrating milestones (like 210 active minutes a week). Use all the electronics available for your advantage!
An exercise buddy is a good idea too. We all do better with accountability.

Transform your mind, body and spirit through this life-changing
Our attitude makes a great impact on all of these areas.
Are we thankful for everything God has given us?
Do we enjoy life to the fullest?
Do we infuse fun into life?
Can we go through difficult and trying circumstances without resentment?
Do we let go of hurts and offenses?
Our minds, bodies, and spirits are inextricably linked. Our thoughts affect our health and our health impacts our thoughts.
It can be the worst cycle or the best blessing.
We have two options.
Option #1: When we focus on what’s wrong with the world and our lives we tend to live in regret and discontentment. Our bodies feel sluggish and achy and we don’t have the energy to fix good foods or workout.
As we eat processed, fake foods and don't exercise, we are deprived of good hormones and chemicals. This leads to feeling even worse.
OR
Option #2: We fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, and approach life from His perspective. Then we feel better, which leads to making better health choices.
As we make better eating and exercise choices, we have the hormones and chemical balance that promote positive thinking, energy, and vibrancy.
I prefer option 2. What about you?
Medicine
Do you choose a drug for many symptoms that could be alleviated by changing the foods we eat, or drinking more water, or losing weight?
We often foster poor health habits and search for a quick fix. Have pain - take a pill. Have an upset stomach - take another pill. This leads to masking symptoms instead of getting to the root of the problem.
By changing our diet and lifestyle habits, we can frequently reduce or even eliminate the need for prescription and over-the-counter medications and help build a thriving health account.
Do I hear an AMEN?
God created everything we need, much of which can be found in natural, healthy foods. I have countless blogs that talk about the plethora of nutrients found in a variety of foods and how good science continues to support the richness God included in His creation.
There are unique situations when medicine is necessary. However, if you can reduce or eliminate the need for medications that have harmful side effects, don’t those sound like great dividends to a healthy health account?
Water
Our body needs water. While it can pull water from foods and other beverages, there’s nothing quite like the dividend payout of straight, pure water.
All water isn’t created equally. Water from different sources often have harmful chemicals and put them in our bodies, especially if we’re drinking an adequate amount (half your body weight in ounces - per day!).
Have you noticed the skin patches to help people stop smoking, eating, for heart disease, and for birth control?
Over 60% of what is put on your skin travels to your bloodstream. The medical market has capitalized on this, but it goes way beyond purposefully putting on some kind of patch.
This means every product in and near you matters.
It has been proven home cleaning products create a toxic environment for our health. Especially in children and pets.
Many tout certain cleaning products and disinfectants as the greatest way to be healthy. Just eliminate all the germs!
Even this year, 2021, is the final stage of removing all triclosan from popular products due to the harm caused in children and expectant mothers. Yet, it took over 5 years of lobbying to make this happen, even after it had been proven over 15 years prior.
All harmful ingredients have not been eliminated. These products strip us of our defense - our immunity. To learn more about this read about this in the Treasures of Health Nutrition Manual (a resource overflowing with riches that will help you build a healthy bank account).
Instead, let’s boost our immune system through all the ways listed above and continue to invest in our health with safe products.
As people have learned the difference between harmful cleaning and helpful cleaning, consumers have cried out for better products. Today, there are a wide variety of natural and organic household products available.
Make the switch today and reap the rewards of increased health from the inside out - including alleviation of skin problems, allergies, and reducing asthma issues.
Hefty Dividends of an Excellent Health Account
If we do this work and make the right investments, the payoff is going to be greater than any stock market boom.
Here are just a few proceeds we’ll receive:
Better resistance to illness
Less or no aches and pains
Increased mental alertness
Greater energy - catch me if you can!
More flexibility
Blood sugar stability - imagine no more cravings/crashes
Emotional health - think happy days!
These represent the interest paid on the investments in our health. Every day is payday!
Not only do my health investments pay dividends to me, but also to my husband, kids, family, and many others that I interact with.
Plus, I get to share this lesson of the bank account with others and then they get paid!!! How good is that?
Now we know what the good investments in our health account are and what just a few of the rewards are. But what are the expenses?
Health Account Expenses
This is the list of expenses that will cost in the short and long term.
As you read, take note of the changes you’ve already made and what the next step could be to eliminate an item or habit that has a high health cost.
Fast Food Diet
At conferences and seminars I’ve done throughout the years, I have often shown my fast food displays that include a hamburger, cheeseburgers, fish filet, fries, onion rings and other foods that are several years old. Believe it or not, they still look the same.
Don’t know about you, but I find that scary! We like our food to last, but good, healthy, nutritious food naturally decays.
Food that lasts don't benefit us, especially when it’s loaded with chemicals, fats, preservatives, and other ingredients that harm our health. It will make large withdrawals, counteracting all the great work you've done to build a healthy bank account for your health.
Sporadic Exercise
Remember that exercise is important? We might miss a day or two here or there, and that’s understandable. But our bodies were made to move.
Taking an hour or two to work on a project or max out your abilities in the gym once a month or so isn’t going to increase your health account balance.
And it’ll have your body crying out for mercy!
OTC and RX Medications
We’ve already discussed how medications can hinder your health. They often act like siphons on your account, making withdrawals you might not even notice.
Educate yourself. Read labels and those pesky inserts. Talk to your doctor. Research what foods, herbs, and vitamins can help take care of whatever illness or disease you’re struggling with.
In many cases, there are lifestyle changes that can eliminate illness and negative symptoms without medications.
Stress
We can’t always eliminate stressors in our lives, but we do have power over making health choices that equip us to handle stress and how we respond to those situations and circumstances.
Empower yourself to find peace and joy no matter what. (God’s Word says that He gives us His peace that surpasses understanding, so it IS possible!)
Synthetic Supplements
Synthetics will stimulate, yet, not nourish your cells. That is expensive in more ways than one.
The University of California Berkeley conducted the Landmark Study in 2007, which observed people who took supplements for over 20 years. The ones who took synthetic supplements had higher diabetes and heart disease than those who took none at all.
Those certainly aren’t the results one would expect from all the advertising claims of supplements. And the opposite of the results we desire.
On the other hand, the study showed that those who took a whole food natural supplement were far better in their health and longevity.
The closer we get to how God made things, the more we benefit.
Dehydration
If you are just 1% dehydrated, you’re not going to be able to think clearly and will experience fatigue.
Water is essential! And having enough water is important.
Remember, our bodies are between 45% - 75% water. Let’s hydrate and give them what they need.
Excessive Sugar Kills
The average American consumes 2-3 pounds of sugar a week, totalling 100-150 pounds of sugar a year. And possibly more, considering the variants of sugar found in processed foods that may not be taken into account in these figures.
That’s astounding, especially when you consider that prior to the 1900s, the average American consumed about 5 pounds of sugar PER YEAR.
What does all that sugar do to our bodies? It can cause:
Eczema in children
Toxemia during pregnancy
Elevated triglycerides
Fatigue
Food allergies
Free radical damage in the bloodstream
Headaches
Hypertension
Hormonal imbalances
Type 2 diabetes
Hyperactivity
Fluid retention
Heart disease
Tooth decay
Depressed immune system
And that’s the short list! Sugar was never meant to be consumed in large quantities on a regular basis. We've trained our taste buds to crave sugar, but by battling and defeating this addiction, we make a large investment in our health.
Victim Mentality Harms
Just as a positive and grateful attitude is akin to making deposits to our health, negative thoughts and victim embracing are like making withdrawals.
It’s easy to come up with reasons we’re unhealthy:
My poor health is my parents’ fault. They should have taught me better.
It’s in my genes. I can’t help it.
It’s my spouse’s fault. They keep bringing in the junk.
If only my doctors were better, I’d be healthier.
However, no matter what our background or current circumstances are, we have the power to make changes in our lives. To respond differently. To break poor habits. And to build the muscles of self-control and discipline.
Unforgiveness and Bitterness Destroy
As costly as it is to forgive, there is only one consolation: unforgiveness costs far more.
Bitterness is like a murky swamp blocking us from the treasure of good health. It weighs us down as much as a physical load would and wears us down.
Scripture tells us to forgive not only for our relationship with God and others, but for ourselves.
God designed us as intricate, marvelous beings and intertwined our hearts, minds, and bodies.
Even science supports this concept. Even though they don’t know why, study after study shows that our emotions impact our physical well-being and vice versa.
When we forgive - quit trying to force someone to understand and pay for the hurt they’ve caused - we’re the ones who experience freedom.
And greater health as we add one more deposit helping to build a healthy bank account.
Lack of Knowledge Impedes Success
Knowledge comes from God’s Word and wisdom is when we apply it to our lives.
In the area of health, God has given us direction and instruction. Science and the medical field can give us a glimpse into the details of why God’s plan works.
That’s why my mission is to learn and share everything I can about living a healthy lifestyle and creating a health bank account that’s full of treasure and wealth.
Knowledge is powerful. When we learn to apply God’s Word in every area of life and live according to God’s guidance, we are blessed in countless ways.
Growing Our Health Accounts
If we don't examine how we spend our money, keep track of expenditures, and balance our bank account on a regular basis, we’ll overdraft our account.
The same is true for our health account.
If we spend all our money on diet cola or fast food or sweet and salty snacks, expenses will overdraw our health account.
Too many expenses can lead to bankruptcy.
Instead, we want to live a vibrant, rich life that comes with our deposits outweighing our withdrawals.
Your health account is already open. Start making more deposits today.
I’d love to hear how your new-found (or renewed) wealth of healthy living blesses you and what you're doing to build a healthy bank account.
I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health. 3 John 2
Milk is one of the most wonderful, nutritious foods God has given us. I know I say that all the time. We are continuing to learn the Lord has provided health foods in abundance. Yet, do you know the health benefits of raw milk?
Why raw milk?
I mean, we’ve experienced commercials for decades now about the amazing benefits of milk. Isn’t homogenized, pasteurized milk best for us? It has a longer shelf life, doesn’t have the danger of bacteria, and is fortified with Vitamin D, which we know is the essential vitamin.
Milk is one of those foods that has been altered and changed from its original form to something processed.
For our good, though, right? After all, the intention of the pasteurization process is to improve it. To rid the “harmful bacteria” raw milk contains and make it safer for human consumption.
But is that the true result? Does processed milk have more value than raw milk?
Let’s investigate.
Raw Milk - A Complete Health-Giving Food
Raw milk, whether from a cow or a goat, is one of the most complete health-giving foods on earth. Clean, raw milk from pastured cows (or goats) is a complete and properly-balanced food. It’s a good source for a myriad of nutrients.
From the earliest recordings to just after World War II, clean, raw milk nourished and healed countless millions.
Milk straight from the udder definitely belongs in the treasure chest of healthy living.
What makes milk so incredible? Let's look at the ingredients to see what makes it such a power-packed food of great value.
8 Health Benefits of Raw Milk
To be such a power-food, milk must contain a plethora of nutrients essential to the body’s proper functioning.
As I said above, it has so many different vitamins and minerals, people can live completely on raw milk if they don’t have access to other food.
This is rare and I wouldn’t suggest a milk-only diet, but like with all the other foods God gave us as a gift, it’s perfectly balanced for fueling our bodies for health and wellness.
Now, there’s been a lot in the last couple of decades about whether milk is only for children or if it also provides benefits to adults. There have also been increasing numbers of milk allergies and intolerances.

Of course, these problems are linked to homogenized, pasteurized, processed milk. Is it the same as raw milk? Do people who drink raw milk have the same problems?
No! As with most adulterated foods, when we as humans try to make it better, we tend to strip it of God-given nutrients and benefits and decrease its nutritional value.
Processed milk is nothing more than white water. And worse, it leads moms into thinking they are doing good when they are not.
1. It is high in protein.
Raw cow’s milk has all nine essential amino acids we need. We know amino acids are good, but do you know why? They’re the building blocks for EVERY CELL in your body!
Your DNA can’t perform its functions necessary for life, growth, and survival without amino acids. Amino acids group together to make proteins, which tell your cells what to do. They really are fascinating.
So, amino acids aren’t just the latest, coolest fad in the diet and health industry. They are the miniscule fuel particles God created to provide your body with everything it needs.
And raw milk is chock-full of them. Very few foods have the perfect balance of proteins - made up of amino acids - that make it so easy to live and thrive.
2. Raw milk contains lactoferin.
Lacto is a term we’re familiar with. Ferrin, not so much. However, this nutrient has numerous beneficial properties, including:
- Improved absorption and assimilation of iron
- Anti-cancer properties
- Antimicrobial action against some species of bacteria which contribute to cavities
These are great health benefits, yet they are only found in raw dairy. Unfortunately, studies have shown a significant loss of these important disease fighters when milk is heated in pasteurization.
3. There are carbohydrates in raw milk.
Lactose, or milk sugar, is the primary carbohydrate in cow’s milk.
People with lactose intolerance - that uncomfortable gut and bowel reaction to off-the-shelf milk, no longer make the enzyme lactase that helps digest milk sugar.
However, raw milk has lactose-digesting bacteria (Lactobacilli). This may allow people who have an intolerance to give it another try.
Also, if people are worried about the sugar in milk, raw milk has the perfect balance to help our bodies digest it better. Remember those proteins? They help reduce spikes in blood sugar.
Now, that doesn’t mean to drink a half gallon at a time, or even every day.
Remember, no food is to become an idol. God gifted us a variety of food for our benefit and never intended for our eating (or drinking) to get out of balance.
4. Raw milk has beneficial fats.
Approximately ⅔ of the fat in milk is saturated. Saturated fats have gotten a bad rap in the last several decades, but do these fats make milk bad for you?
In fact, saturated fats play a number of key roles in our bodies:
- Construction of cell membranes
- Construction of important hormones - every woman needs these!
- Providing energy storage
- Providing padding for delicate organs - healthy padding not yellow fat.
- Serving as a vehicle for important fat-soluble vitamins - the brain loves a serving fat-soluble vitamins served with a glass of milk.
Saturated fats, or fatty acids, as with most food and some nutrients, are useful and even helpful in the right quantities. Yet, saturated fats create problems when they come from adulterated food or are consumed in great quantities.
The good news is the fats from foods God designed, like raw milk, don’t cause heart disease or contribute to it when they’re consumed in balance.
All of them are essential to healthy living and have their own purposes.
Whole raw milk has them all.
Yes, you read that correctly. Every single vitamin God required our bodies to need for vibrant, abundant living is found in raw milk.
Are you starting to see why raw milk is such a complete food and consuming raw milk is such a good idea?
6. Raw milk has a lot of minerals.
Raw milk also contains a broad selection of completely available minerals ranging from the familiar calcium and phosphorus down to trace elements (some of which the function of is still unclear to us).
Calcium is the big one we hear a lot about in relation to milk. That’s because this mineral has a host of benefits all on its own.
- Reduction in cancers, particularly of the colon
- Higher bone mineral density in people of every age
- Lower risk of osteoporosis and fractures in older adults
- Lowered risk of kidney stones
- Formation of strong teeth
- Reduction of cavities
This is just a sampling of calcium’s benefits! And we haven’t touched on the other nutrients and benefits we know about.
An interesting feature of minerals as nutrients is the delicate balance they require with other minerals to function properly.
For instance, calcium needs a proper ratio of two other macronutrients (phosphorus and magnesium) to be properly utilized in our bodies.
Guess what!
By design, all of the minerals in raw milk from grass-fed cows are in proper balance to one another, helping our bodies to use them optimally.
I also bet, knowing God’s character and perfect provision, those trace elements we know little about also have some necessary or beneficial purposes.

Transform your mind, body and spirit through this life-changing
Raw milk has 60+ (known) fully intact and functional enzymes that perform an amazing array of tasks in the body, each essential in facilitating one key reaction or another.
The most significant health benefit derived from food enzymes is the burden they take off our bodies.
When we eat food that contains enzymes devoted to its own digestion, our pancreas doesn’t have to work so hard.
The enzymes in raw milk break down starch, lactose, fat, and phosphate compounds, in that order, making milk more digestible and freeing up key minerals.
Other enzymes help protect milk from unwanted bacterial infection.
God’s creation is amazing.
8. Get choline from raw milk.
Choline isn’t a vitamin or mineral, but a nutrient that our bodies need to function at its best.
A recent quote from a registered dietitian nutritionist gives even more evidence for the immense value raw milk contains:
“Raw Milk is also a rich source of choline; an important nutrient found to support sleep, muscle movement, learning and memory. Choline helps to maintain the structure of cellular membranes, aids in the transmission of nerve impulses, assists in the absorption of fat and can lessen chronic inflammation.” M. Ware, RDN
“Osteoarthritis of the knee currently has no cure, but researchers say drinking raw milk every day has been linked to reduced progression of the disease.” M. Ware, RDN
Watch this video to learn more about the reasons to drink raw milk today and everyday!
Is Raw Milk Safe? Pasteurization, Homogenization, and Raw Milk Safety
Louis Pasteur. We learn about him in science class and about his amazing discovery which allowed milk to be processed so that it lasts longer. This helped more people access milk who lived far away from farms, making milk access very limited.
The goal was a good one. The results, however, are in question.
During pasteurization, milk is exposed to high temperatures, being heated to 161 degrees for 15 seconds. Doesn’t sound like much, but it has several consequences.
There’s no debate about the effectiveness of pasteurization for killing unwanted bacteria, which is destroyed by pasteurization.
There’s also no doubt that this process gives dairy products longer shelf lives.
However, it also kills desired bacteria found in fresh milk, lowering the value of what we now know are beneficial to our gut and overall health.
In addition, the process denatures milk enzymes and changes its protein structure, which makes it difficult for our bodies to assimilate and digest.
What is Homogenization?
Homogenization breaks up the larger butterfat globules in milk into very tiny globules, which suspends them evenly in the milk.
This is why processed milk doesn’t have cream on top, while raw milk does.
The benefit of homogenization is similar to that of pasteurization: a longer shelf life. It also reduces the need for milk to be stirred or shaken to redistribute the fat before consuming.
Many people have studied the link between homogenized milk and heart disease, as the two coincided in timing (a rise in heart disease, that is). The results are inconclusive, with evidence falling on both sides of the issue.
However, it’s noteworthy that nutrition in our food plummeted as we scientifically altered and modified it from its natural state.
Raw Milk Safety
There are countless reasons to look into this nutrient dense food, but there are also reasons to be cautious.
In America, there are approximately 20 states that allow the sale of raw, farm-raised milk. In many other states, the law grants people the right to purchase a share of a cow they can receive the milk from.
This website gives a thorough overview of the different laws concerning raw milk state-to-state.
I love healthy living. This information, like all that I share, is meant to help others see how intricately God designed foods given to us for our health.
I can’t tell you if or where or how to obtain raw milk, only that if it’s available to you, God created it as a wonderful, amazing, power-food.
Only you can make the risk-benefit calculation between consuming raw, clean milk and homogenized, pasteurized milk and apply that decision to your life within the boundaries of the law where you live.
Reap the Amazing Health Benefits of Raw Milk Today!
Hopefully you’ve seen now the plethora of benefits of raw milk.
God created incredible foods like this because He loves you! He desires health and vibrancy and abundant living for you. A big part of that is how we take care of and treat our bodies.
God-designed milk brings health.
The benefits range from better digestion to equipping our bodies to more efficiently battle cancer to strong bones.
Have you tried raw milk? If you don’t have access to it, organic is the next best choice. Rice milk and almond milk are also great substitutions for recipes and drinking, especially if you have family members with a dairy allergy.
I’d love to hear your experience with raw milk, visiting a dairy farm, and even making your own butter. It’s simpler than you think.
When it’s cold outside, our immune systems need an even greater boost by two things specifically: Vitamin C and sunshine. I can’t control the sunshine (however, I do have great recommendations for Vitamin D supplements), but I can help with hooking you up with Vitamin C and the best immune boosting foods available in the grocery store. I can’t wait to share the wide variety of citrus fruits that help:
- Prevent cancer
- Prevent kidney stones
- Improve heart health, reducing the risk of heart disease
- Improve skin beauty
As with all God-given foods (foods He’s called good for us to eat), citrus fruits are packed with loads of nutrition.
God gave us a variety of foods that can be found in all shapes, sizes, colors, textures, and flavors. He created food so that we could not only sustain our lives with it, but also thrive and enjoy the eating of it.
Everything we need for healthy, vibrant, abundant living has been given to us, often in the form of food.
Today, it’s all about citrus. Even among a single fruit, we find God’s creativity in a variety of colors, shapes, and sizes. (Think about all the types of oranges or plums or grapes.)
Let’s talk about which of these fruits are the healthiest and why we need these in our diet every single day.
Health Benefits of Citrus Fruits
You’ve heard it said an apple a day keeps the doctor away, but an orange - and all the citrus fruits - do the same.
Maybe you know fruit, even citrus fruits, are good for you, but perhaps not exactly why. What makes these fruits so special?
Let’s look at them individually to find out.
Oranges
Oranges are high in fiber, which you know is #1 on my list of important nutrients. They also have a little bit of protein and potassium, which has been proven to prevent strokes by 49%.
For those who suffer with kidney stones, oranges are the perfect addition to your diet, as they help prevent them.
Remember we talked about variety within species of food? With oranges, you’ll find that some are more red than others. Don’t shy away from them. Color in fruits and vegetables are often due to the nutrients within.
The redder oranges (and often other foods) are higher in carotenoids.
What are carotenoids? They’re phytonutrients that give red, orange, and yellow fruits their vibrant colors and provide us with antioxidants - those great things that help us fight cancer, boost our immune system, and have anti-inflammatory properties.
They also help protect our eyes and vision.
The more carotenoids, the better. Bring on the blood oranges!
And don’t leave the orange section without grabbing some mandarins. These little oranges help lower insulin and include plenty of carotenoids.
In one study, people suffering from Hepatitis C were served manderin juice. The results showed the juice helped prevent liver cancer.
Mandarins are also powerful weapons against breast cancer.
Then there’s Vitamin C. Do you know all Vitamin C does for your body? It:
- Prevents high blood pressure
- Protects the heart
- Reduces inflammation
- Fights bacterial infections
- Protects against viral infection
- Aids absorption of iron
- And so much more!
Vitamin C - An Essential Nutrient Found in Abundance in Citrus Fruits
Vitamin C is essential. Years ago, doctors noticed problems with people on ships and with little access to a variety of foods. What they discovered was a host of health problems caused by lack of proper nutrients.
While they didn’t know the details, they found that adding citrus fruits to people’s diets brought back their health. The proof (or cure) wasn’t in the pudding, but in the oranges.
Scurvy, a disease causing the variety of problems doctors observed, is caused by lack of Vitamin C. We rarely see this today, but it’s a good reminder that Vitamin C is essential.
But more than just getting enough not to have negative health consequences, - in addition to preventing scurvy, research has also shown a link with reduction of experiencing the common cold - we want to experience benefits from the great positive health results of getting plenty of Vitamin C.
Lemons and Limes
Lemons and limes also have a host of vitamins and minerals, including those mentioned above. However, in addition, they have an antioxidant called limonene, which reduces cancer risk.
For women going through breast cancer treatment, it’s been shown that lemons and limes help improve the efficiency of chemo.
If you have to go through it, make it work and work well.
Limes also have pectin, a soluble fiber that helps protect your colon.
It also helps stabilize blood sugar.
I get this question all the time: are the foods I recommend OK for a pre-diabetic?
YES!
This is exactly what you need to eat. God’s foods are wonderful gifts and He’s balanced them with all the right nutrients to help our bodies utilize them well.
That’s why fruits don’t just have sugar, but are loaded with vitamins, minerals, fiber, and even sometimes some protein.
Balanced glucose is prevention for everyone - even diabetes.
Grapefruits
Did you know grapefruits have 193% of the daily recommended value of Vitamin C. That’s a rich fruit! (Remember all those amazing benefits of Vitamin C listed above?)
But don’t think that’s too much!
God included all the other nutrients - such as bioflavonoids - which help your body metabolize the Vitamin C.
Also, it’s very difficult to get too much Vitamin C. Since it’s a water-soluble vitamin, your body will flush out what it doesn’t need or can’t use (often taking harmful bacteria with it).
There have been examples of people taking tens of thousands of milligrams of Vitamin C a day. I don’t recommend that, but share it as evidence that Vitamin C is good for the body, often in higher doses than the recommended daily allowance.
An excess of Vitamin C can cause some stomach discomfort, including diarrhea, but I’ll share what a friend told me her physician assistant father advised her: Take as much as you can without negative bowel affect. Your body will tell you when you’ve exceeded its capacity.
In addition to a basketful of Vitamin C, grapefruit also has lots of B vitamins and magnesium - two other important and essential nutrients for healthy, vibrant living.
Watch this video where I talk more about these immune boosting foods you should eat today.
Additional Benefits of Citrus Fruits - Immune Boosting Foods
Have I given you enough reasons to stock up on citrus fruits? I hope so. But just in case, let me add one more.
If we all ate the recommended 2-3 servings of fruit a day, we’d be adding high-value foods to our bodies which are loaded with nutrients, not the least of which is fiber.
Fiber is the key to balancing the body’s reaction to the natural sugars in fruit, weight loss, and overall health.
Eating a sliced orange or spooning out the sections of grapefruit are great ways to enjoy these fruits. Squeezing a lemon or lime over some baked fish or into our water are also excellent options.
Here I share how to make your own flavorful infused waters using these citrus fruits plus other fruits and vegetables.
Boost Your Immune System Today & Everyday
When you add these citrus fruits to your daily diet, you’re adding Vitamin C and a host of other nutrients.
Especially in the winter, you’re helping boost the immune system and keep it strong for whatever comes along.
Instead of hiding from germs, which actually dampens our immune system, we should work diligently at boosting it with citrus fruits and other God-given foods that lead to abundant living.
Make citrus fruits a part of your every day and experience their wonderful flavors and benefits.
But most of all, remember God’s recipe for excellent health starts with the #1 ingredient: God’s love for you.
He loves you with an everlasting, steadfast, perfect love.
That is also the perfect ingredient to ingest every day!
What are the Benefits of Fasting? 15 Reasons to Fast
Or...why should you fast? While fasting is expected in scripture, few Christians today practice the discipline. Unfortunately, it seems like fasting is more accepted in secular culture for its health benefits than in Church culture. Let’s change that, starting with answering the question: What are the benefits of fasting?
While there aren’t any concrete commandments in the Bible to fast, as stated above, there’s an atmosphere of expectation.
Last, but certainly not least, Jesus spoke of and promoted fasting and the early Church practiced fasting as a normal part of Christian life. Do you want to know why fasting is good for your health?
The question is not, “Why should you fast?,” but, “Why should you not fast?”
Why Fast? Health Benefits of Fasting
The benefits of fasting on your body, mind, and spirit are immeasurable.
Fasting is a form of worship and expressing your love for God.
Fasting is and always will be in the lifestyle of people who truly want to hear from God. However, it’s not an end on its own.
So why is fasting good for your health? What are fasting benefits for your physical and spiritual health? Here are the many things that fasting does for you:
Physical Benefits of Fasting
The world has discovered the amazing benefits of fasting and many people and organizations have developed programs for fasting.
Numerous studies have provided ample evidence that fasting provides various health benefits.
God created our bodies to experience regular breaks from eating (and other worldly pleasures). This is one more area where science and knowledge line up with God’s principles for healthy living.
So, what are the physical benefits of fasting?
Fasting:
1. Helps detox your body.
2. Improves metabolism.
3. Helps lower blood sugar.
4. Reduces risks of inflammation.
5. Helps remove toxins and damaged cells.
6. Helps lower cancer risk.
7. Improves mental health.
8. Protects against diabetes, heart disease, and diminishing cognitive function.
9. Slows the aging process.
10. Helps turn on stem cells.
11. Is pivotal to weight loss.
12. Boosts the immune system.
13. Improves digestion.
14. Eliminates cravings.
15. Aids clearer thinking and emotional stability.
I discuss more about the benefits of fasting in this video. Check it out to learn more!
Which benefit are you most excited about? Write it down and keep it where you can see it several times a day. As you prepare for a fast and walk through it, keeping the benefits in the forefront of your mind will help on long, difficult days.
Weight loss is often a positive result, but shouldn’t be the main focus. There are so many other health benefits your body will rejoice in.
Is Fasting Hard to Do?
As with many things that are in our best interest, fasting is work and comes with challenges! Don’t walk into it thinking it’ll be a piece of cake.
The more you fast, the more the body becomes accustomed to it and the more benefits will outweigh the sacrifices.
The world has adopted fasting as a health benefit, yet fasting is ultimately meant for spiritual purposes.
Spiritual Benefits of Fasting
Fasting, as described and referenced in the Bible, aims to draw us closer to God.
Prayer should accompany fasting, as we spend time with the Lord instead of on food (or television, social media, or other worldly distractions).
Every time our bodies experience a craving for food or some other comfort, we’re reminded of our need to spend time with God.
1. Fasting frees us from bondage.
Fasting taps you into the power of God to gain freedom from bondage of sin, depression, conflict, and many other problems that creep up and take over. It helps you resist evil, debilitating thoughts, and temptation.
2. Fasting allows you to hear from God.
Are you seeking divine guidance, revelation, or an answer to a specific problem? For reasons unknown to our finite minds, fasting opens the corridor to hearing the Lord wide open. It’s often through fasting that one achieves clarity and direction that's otherwise elusive.
3. It helps you achieve a greater level of self-control.
Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit, but we often dampen this gift by choosing our flesh over the Spirit. Fasting allows us to practice defeat over our fleshly desires and replace indulgence with spiritual strength.
4. Fasting strengthens your relationship with God.
Physically, fasting heals your cells. Spiritually, it renews your mind. Overall, fasting is truly beneficial to health. It removes damaged cells, damaged thoughts, and increases joy and peace.
5. Fasting draws you closer to the Lord
Fasting eliminates distractions that keep us from spending more time and more quality time with God. When we're free from things that interfere and interrupt our time with the Lord, we experience a more intimate walk with Him.
How to Prepare for a Fast
1. Determine the length of your fast.
Traditionally, fasting is measured from sunset to sunset. They can be as short as 24 hours and as long as 40 days. Of course, if you’re doing a liquid or water-only fast, these would gravitate to the shorter fast versus a longer one.
(Always consult a medical professional when doing a water-only fast or if you have medical conditions impacted by drastic changes in diet, no matter the period of time you decide upon.)
2. Determine what to fast.
Some fasts go without solid foods or anything with calories (water-only fast). A liquid fast includes milk, broth, juice, and fruit and vegetable only smoothies.
Other fasts eliminate meats, dairy, grains, and/or everything except fruits and vegetables.
Some people choose fasting from something other than or addition to foods, such as television, social media, or other time-stealers. These will still provide spiritual benefit, but not the physical benefits (except perhaps in the area of focus and self-control).
3. Determine who should know.
As recorded in Matthew, Jesus discusses how to fast.
“And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. Matthew 6:16-18
However, if you’re fasting someone is likely to notice. Your family, coworkers, friends. What we don’t want to do is advertise our fast for accolades.
Sometimes, it’s beneficial to have someone join you. On occasion, people will fast as a group. This is especially helpful on longer fasts to share encouragement.
It makes perfect sense that your family joins on a fast. It’s a wonderful opportunity to teach your children and grandchildren about fasting as you experience spiritual growth together.
Here is a video on how to teach kids truths about the Daniel fast.
Benefits of Intermittent Fasting: Get Started Today!
While we haven’t talked about specific timeframes for fasting or how often to fast, these health benefits - physical and spiritual - are linked to a single fast, but also to intermittent fasting.
What does that mean? Intermittent means to fast on a regular basis. Whether that’s once a week for a day, once a month for 2-5 days, (short-term fasting) or once a year for 21-40 days (long-term fasting).
If you want better health overall, equip your body to cope with chronic diseases, improved brain function and heart health, and lower body fat and better weight control, this is a great practice to start.
Fasting can help in all these areas and may help in even more.
Get started today with fasting to achieve physical and spiritual health!

Here are 5 additional everyday healthy living tips on that will prepare your body for fasting:
1. Avoid sugars and refined grains.
2. Let your body burn fat between meals.
3. Consider incorporating intermittent fasting.
4. Avoid snacking.
5. Eat a healthy diet.
If your body has less to detox from, your fast will be a much more pleasant experience.
Plus, health is not an occasional practice of severe restrictions and limited food. Health is learning to live every day with an aim to benefit our bodies as God made them with the foods He gave us to maintain and heal them.

The aroma of fresh out of the oven fresh-baked bread is truly mouth watering. Can you smell it?
Nothing compares to the satisfying taste and health-promoting abilities of fresh whole wheat bread. And yes, bread is health-promoting!
In our health journey, we want to eat good foods that are good for us. Bread - living bread - is good. To help you make the best perfect bread, below are 12 tips to make great every time.
Bread is in the Bible almost from the very beginning. God gifted Adam and Eve with an abundance of life-giving, palate-pleasing foods, and wheat was on the list.
He created a multitude of seed-bearing plants:
And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth.” And it was so. The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. Genesis 1:11-12
Then He gave the plants to Adam and Eve as a gift:
And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. Genesis 1:29
Seed-bearing includes wheat!
In Genesis 3:19, the Lord says specifically mentions bread:
“By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, until you return to the ground, because from it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
Since bread is a gift, we shouldn't shy away from making it a part of a healthy diet. Instead, we should aim to include fresh, whole, life-giving bread in our array of meal options.
The best way to do that is to make our own bread at home. Don't forget to download my Honey Whole Wheat Bread recipe!
How to Make Bread At Home
Wheat and all varieties of whole grains are gifts from the Lord!
Unfortunately, like many other modern day foods, it has been corrupted. Instead of fresh, live bread, most people in developed countries feast on dead, processed, bleached bread.
Wheat contains a load of nutrients, but because of the processing it goes through to become white flour or bread on the grocery store shelves, these nutrients are stripped and missing in the final product.
The “enriched” bread available in the store has been infused with replacement nutrients, but they’re neither as abundant nor as beneficial as God-given vitamins and minerals.
In addition to being stripped of 26 nutrients (with only 5 of them being replaced), white flour has also been robbed of its color, taste, and alluring aroma.
On the contrary, freshly milled whole grain flours contain a plethora of nutrients and natural oils still intact.
This is why I highly recommend that you making flour at home by mill your own grain! Here's a video where I talk about the different grain mills out there and what the best one is:
Or if you prefer reading, this list of the top grain mills (including my favorites) breaks down sizing, efficiency, prices, and more.
But to return to my point:
We can conclude that wheat, along with the various varieties, and bread are good for you!
Now, we don’t want to eat half a loaf with every meal. Any food in excess becomes a detriment to our health instead of a benefit.
However, when we invest in our health by switching from dead bread to live bread, our bodies - and taste buds - will thank us.
If you’re new to baking homemade bread, or just want some tips to perfect it, you’re in the right place. Here are my top 12 tips to make perfect bread every time.
(Don’t forget, though, the first secret successful baking and cooking is to double check the recipe and ingredients before you begin!)
Here are 12 tips on how to make the healthiest, yummiest bread for you and your family:
1. Use instant yeast.
You can use instant yeast or professional active dry yeast such as SAF. This may be added with dry ingredients and does not need to be dissolved in warm water.
2. Store yeast in an airtight container.
Also, don't forget to refrigerate or freeze to maintain freshness. The freshness and quality of yeast will impact how much your dough rises. Check expiration dates and keep your yeast in a cool place.
3. Measure oil and honey together.
When a recipe calls for oil and honey, pour the oil in a measuring cup first, then the honey. Make sure your measuring cup is big enough to fit them both. This allows honey to slide out more easily.
4. Pay attention to kneading time.
It’s always best to stop kneading early, rather than to over knead. Typical kneading time for whole wheat bread is 6-8 minutes, using the dough hook and speed 2 on the Bosch stand mixer. Start counting kneading time as soon as you have added the last of the flour.
5. Test the dough after kneading.
When dough is kneaded properly, you should be able to slowly stretch a small piece into a thin windowpane, thin enough to see light through. If it tears, it requires a bit more kneading.
Get Healthy & Closer To God In 21 Days!
Transform your mind, body and spirit through this life-changing
How will you know if your bread dough has proofed enough and is ready to bake? It should double in size. (And most recipes include an estimated time for rising.)
But what if you’re not a great eye-baller?
To test if the dough has risen to double in size, press a finger lightly and quickly into the dough. If indentation springs back, let the dough rise a bit longer. If indentation remains or comes back slowly, the dough has risen enough.
7. Less is more (when mixing).
Don’t over mix batters for cakes, muffins, or cookies. It causes gluten development and can make baked goods tough. What you want is to mix your ingredients until they’re just combined thoroughly.
Remember that mixing your wet and dry ingredients separately helps reduce mixing time of your batter once it’s together.
8. Equipment matters.
Using a food thermometer is extremely helpful in determining when the bread is done. A loaf of whole wheat bread is done at 190°.
9. Take note of breaks.
If your bread loaf cracks on the sides, the dough hasn’t risen long enough or too much dough has been put in the pan. Take note of what goes right and what goes wrong in order to adjust next time.
10. Fruity bread tip!
When using cranberries or raisins in baking, soften them by placing them in a small bowl and covering with warm juice or water to plump. Soak for 10-15 minutes. Using water can cause the sweetness to be removed. Juice helps the berries to maintain their sweet flavor.
11. The perfect sweet bread.
When baking sweet breads, braided, or filled breads, check the loaf 5-10 minutes before the baking time is complete. If the top is browning early, tent the top with foil the last to avoid over browning during those last few crucial minutes of bake time.
12. The perfect slice.
For slicing cinnamon rolls or pizza rolls, use dental floss to cut dough. I was amazed how this sliced the perfect roll!
Make Bread at Home and Bless Your Family!
Homemade (and especially home-milled) bread is delicious and nutritious. Making bread at home is a gift for the whole family.
Remember those nutrients we mentioned before? They include: - B-1 - B-2 - B-3 - B-6 - Folic acid - Vitamin E - Manganese - Zinc - Iron - Calcium - Magnesium - Fiber ... And so many more! The majority of these vitamins and minerals are stripped in the refining process, but whole wheat flour (and other grains as well) are chock full of healthy, beneficial, life-sustaining nutrients.
However, bread baking is part science, part art, and part trial and error. There may be times your bread doesn’t rise, over cooks, or misses in some other way.
Don’t give up!
Follow these tips for baking bread and you won’t be disappointed. Familiarize yourself with your oven and cooking environment. Yeast doughs respond differently in a smaller, closed kitchen that holds warmth longer versus a larger, more open kitchen that may be cooler.
Practice. Practice. And practice more.
The more you bake bread at home, the more you’ll perfect it. What’s your favorite homemade bread? What are your favorite bread recipes? I’d love to know and hear how making your own bread at home has blessed you and your family.

Want to add some extra nutrition to your average peanut butter cookie recipe? Nothing compares to the satisfying taste and the health-promoting abilities of fresh whole wheat baked goods. If we want to eat the foods Jesus ate, then whole grains belong on the table!
When someone first told me that I need to mill my own wheat and make my own bread, all I could picture was a horse walking around a grind stone in my backyard. My neighbors would definitely disagree with this choice. Fortunately, today we have the simple design of tabletop electric grain mills to mill any grain, bean, or legume into fresh, satisfying, and nutritious flour! (For a helpful list of the top grain mills, click here.)
Supermarket vs Home Baked
Baked goods in the market have come far from God’s original design. Today, the white flour used in over 99% of store purchased and restaurant served bread works the same as white sugar in the body. White flour has been robbed of its color, taste, smell and nutrients. Twenty-six nutrients, plus the bran have been removed from wheat to produce white flour. Five of the removed nutrients are then returned (in a synthetic form) to produce “enriched” flour.
Replacing white flour with freshly milled whole grain flours is a tremendous step in nutritional improvement. Freshly-milled flours have all of the natural oils and nutrients of the grain still intact. To retain the nutrients once the grain is ground into flour by a flour mill, the flour can be placed in the refrigerator or freezer for up to one month before the natural oils go rancid. If the freshly-ground flour is left at room temperature, the natural oils will go rancid within forty-eight hours. After that time, the wheat germ, containing ninety percent of the nutrients, is also rancid. “Rancid” basically means that the food item has spoiled and often will smell bad. Eating rancid or spoiled food has consequences, including increased toxicity to the body. Once the bread is baked within that time frame the nutrients are preserved.
Processed, enriched, and fortified grains steal away your health. Invest in your health and make smart choices. Whole grains add to your health!!
Tips for the Best Healthy Peanut Butter Cookie
USE FRESH MILLED WHOLE GRAINS. The best wheat variety is soft white. However, any wheat variety can be used. Also try Spelt, Kamut, Einkorn and Emmer for a delicious cookie. If you are really a foodie use the Ezekiel grains for a super boost of nutrients in the cookie!
FOR CRISPY, CHEWY COOKIES: Use a fork to flatten the dough balls. Press down the tines of the fork vertically, then horizontally on the dough to form a crisscross pattern. (If your dough is too soft to make a clean pattern, chill for 5 minutes.)
FOR SOFT PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES: Do not flatten the dough balls. Bake them as is.
Bake the cookies on the center rack of the oven (one pan per oven) for 7-9 minutes, or until lightly browned on the bottom. Ovens will vary.
Take them out of the oven and let them rest in the pan for 3-4 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack. If you don’t wait they will crumble. Cookies will set as they sit.
After they’ve cooled, store the cookies in a plastic container with a lid at room temperature for several days. Freeze after two days for up to 3 months.
Top 7 Add-Ins for Healthier Cookies
Flaxseeds 2 tablespoons freshly ground flaxseeds. Flaxseeds add fiber, protein and essential oils. Fiber lowers the sugar count and helps your brain not get a large dose of glucose!
Chia Seeds Although your family may question the black dots in the cookie – they also not notice the nutrient dense specks. Add at the end of mixing to avoid a dry cookie because chia seeds tend to absorb moisture. Mix and bake. Don’t let them sit.
Chocolate All natural dark cacao chocolate chips or cacao nibs.
Coconut Adding 2 tablespoons of coconut is a favorite of mine! Look for unsweetened coconut.
Nut Butters Substitute peanut butter with any nut butter. My favorite is sunflower seed butter! Almond nut butter may need a little extra sweetener. Or for more foodie fun – mix the nut butters. Substitute 1/3 cup of peanut butter for almond butter or sunflower seed butter.
Gluten Free Make these cookies with GF oats. Simply grind the oats in a blender to make oat flour. They may be a little more crumbly than the trusted firm cookie we grew up with.
Nuts Go nut crazy! Nuts add more essential omegas to the mix – your brain will love you!

Like I said, this apple cranberry coffee cake recipe passes the Bible Diet test because all three ingredients are present in it.
This is why it is an amazing recipe to prepare for your children, who are in need of all the essential nutrients in their body for proper development. It is also a great dish for weight conscious people who are trying to cut back on sugar and eat more whole foods.
This is a coffee cake can be a good way to invite people over to discuss what God is doing in your life! Around the table is where the Gospel is going to be shared. It is not about inviting people to Church anymore and letting the pastor do the work.
The challenge I have for you is to make this recipe and invite people to your home and talk about the goodness of the Lord and His loving message to us, His children. The message of love and peace, which is best shared over a nice meal such as this lovely apple coffee cake!

Nutritional Benefits of the Harvest Apple Cranberry Coffee Cake
Perhaps you have eaten apple cake in the past and you’re thinking this one’s just like it. But no. This harvest coffee cake with cranberries levels up in terms of nutritional value and flavor.
For instance, I use a protein-rich flour for this recipe, which I actually mill myself. This recipe calls for pastry flour, and you have a choice to make it gluten-free or regular, so it is all up to you. Sometimes I add protein powder to my recipes but since this one already uses flour that is packed with protein, you are free to use protein powder or not. (But it sure would not hurt to sprinkle some, especially if you want to increase your protein intake!)
Speaking of flour...
In my kitchen, I always have my ever-reliable mini mill that I use to make homemade flour in seconds. You can make almond flour, coconut flour, quinoa flour… You name it, you got it!
And aside from the flour, we have our nuts, which as you all know are packed with healthy fats and protein. If you have a food processor or a slicer shredder, you can cut up some nuts into smaller pieces that you will sprinkle into the pan and then it is good to go.
Next up, we have our antioxidants. The apples you use in this recipe are packed with antioxidants that can help your health thrive. Then, there are cranberries that are not just antioxidant-rich but also loaded with fiber.
Then, we have butter and eggs, which are actually biblical foods as these are mentioned in the Bible. You can read more about these Bible foods and the Bible diet from the Treasures of Health Nutrition Manual.
The sweetener I use for this apple coffee recipe is Sucanat, although you could also substitute with Stevia or monk fruit. If you prefer honey, feel free to do so as it is completely fine, too.
I would like to point out that you will be creaming the butter, sweetener, and applesauce in this recipe. What I use for this process is my Nutrimill Artiste mixer, which is an excellent time-saver and workhorse in the kitchen. It just makes things fast and easy, so I don’t have to do manual mixing. And yes, the result is always perfectly smooth, thick, and just how I want it.
So that’s pretty much what this apple cranberry coffee recipe is made of. Sounds simple? Sounds yummy? Then gather up your ingredients and let the baking begin!
As temperatures drop it's delightful to heat up the oven! This Harvest Apple Cranberry Coffee Cake is a delicious way to start or end your day! With fiber and protein, it's nutritious too!

Purim is such a joyous celebration. One to share with every generation and celebrate every single year. It’s a biblical holiday based on the fascinating book of Esther. This post has the story of Esther and why we celebrate Purim. Now, we’re ready to dive into how to celebrate Purim as a Christian.
But first, here’s a rundown of what Purim is.
Purim is a Jewish holiday that takes place in February or March each year celebrating the rescue of God’s people from an evil plot to destroy them.
A brief perusal of history shows it’s one of many such schemes.
This one occurred about 2,500 years ago in the ancient Persian Empire.
Purim - A Story of Rescue
The Persian King Ahasuerus had conquered much land and captured many people, including the Israelites.
His wife offended him by refusing a request he’d made in front of a host of admirers and dignitaries, so he banished her and soon launched the search for a new queen.
Esther, an orphaned Jewish girl, found favor in his eyes. The king elevated her to royal status as his wife.
She fulfilled her role well, but put her life in danger when an evil man named Haman stirred with anger and hatred against her uncle Mordecai and the Jewish people.
(We’re just hitting the highlights here because, hopefully, you’ve read a broader review in this post. Also, I recommend reading the whole story! Even if you’ve read it a dozen times before.) Now, back to the drama.
In his pride and fury, Haman obtains permission to annihilate the Jews and casts lots (like throwing dice or flipping a coin) to designate the day the Persian people can destroy the Israelites.
This is where the name “Purim” originates.
He is thwarted when Esther reveals the plot to her husband, King Ahasuerus. The king orders Haman’s execution and decrees the Jews can protect themselves.
In great rejoicing, the people of Israel are saved.
What a great story to celebrate! We can celebrate today how God worked back then and continues to work today!
Teaching our children and grandchildren how God works will help them recall this story when they are in a difficult situation. They can be the next Esther.
We’ve covered the why, now I’m thrilled to move onto the how.
How to Celebrate Purim
We’ve covered the why, now I’m thrilled to move onto the how.
Here are 5 steps to make this a fun joyous celebration. LET’S PARTY!!!!!
1. Plan
Purim is simple to plan. I recommend marking it on your calendar now and set a reminder to start prepping a week ahead of time.
What do you want to do during this week?
- Read the story of Esther to familiarize yourself with the details in the story. (Even if you read it today or tomorrow, read it again. God has an amazing way of bringing out details and truths we miss when we reread His Word.)
- Write out the story as a megillah (scroll of Esther) or print copies of the book of Esther for everyone to read together. (You can tape them together to make a scroll/megillah.)
- Plan a party on the date. Purim falls on the 14th day of the Jewish Month of Adar. Because the Jewish day begins at sunset, technically Purim starts at sunset Monday, March 6th this year, and lasts through sunset Tuesday, March 7th. Pick either day or both! In the book of Esther, Mordecai decreed Purim include both days.
Then Mordecai recorded these events, and he sent letters to all the Jews who were in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, both near and far, obliging them to celebrate the fourteenth day of the month Adar, and the fifteenth day of the same month, annually, because on those days the Jews rid themselves of their enemies, and it was a month which was turned for them from grief into joy, and from mourning into a holiday; that they were to make them days of feasting and rejoicing, and sending portions of food to one another, and gifts to the poor. Esther 9:20-22

- Invite friends. In the current climate, people have differing opinions and comfort levels of gathering in groups. Do what you’re called to do. Pray about it. Listen to the Lord’s leading. And follow through in faith.
- Plan the food. Party food! Do a search for traditional Purim foods, but don’t feel stuck by the suggestions found online.
Hamantaschen cookies are one the most popular. These “cookies” are open and have a variety of fillings.
Challah is also common. This homemade braided bread tastes as scrumptious as it looks
Kreplach are tasty triangular pastries filled with meat. Beans are another common dish on the menu for Purim.
- Consider a fast. Just as Esther sought the Lord through fasting and prayer, we benefit from seeking Him in like manner as we prepare for the celebration of Purim.
2. Pray for:
- God’s chosen people - the Jewish nation - around the world. Ask God to protect them from lies and evil plots for their destruction, which are still rampant today.
- God to open the eyes of Jewish people to see Jesus (Yeshua) as His Christ (Messiah) and Savior of His people. That the scales would fall off their eyes as they did with Saul of the New Testament. That they would see God’s message contained in the prophecies of the Old Testament.
- Ministries like One for Israel, who are taking the Gospel to the Hebrew Nation, and Israel specifically.
- God’s people - followers of Jesus - to boldly proclaim the Gospel to the Jewish nation as well as every nation, tongue, and tribe across the world.
- Ever-increasing understanding of God’s story as He divinely shared it throughout the Holy Scriptures.
- Your heart to break for what breaks His heart. For eyes to see and opportunities to stand against oppression, injustice, abandonment, and poverty.
- Praise God for His faithfulness, protection, salvation, and power displayed in the book of Esther. For all the times He’s worked in your life, even when you couldn’t or didn’t see His hand.
- Praise God for how He’s working today in your life and around the world.
3. Gather
Gather some fun noise makers. Think “New Year’s Eve” style and yes, even fireworks!
Gather crowns, hats, and costumes. Get creative with things you have around the house.
Children will often enjoy making items, especially if they involve royalty-wear.
4. Decorate
Find your favorite fun decorations. The theme is kings, princesses, queens, royalty, victory!
Again, use what’s around the house (although, of course, a bit of shopping isn’t out of the question).
Get the kids involved. Ask them for ideas. Provide arts and crafts materials so they can help in the preparations and decorations.
5. Make and give gifts to friends and people in need
Plan this with your kids. Ask them who they want to give gifts to and bless.
If you have trouble deciding who to bless, cast lots to decide. This is how Haman chose the day of the holocaust. Purim means lots. The casting of lots. It is also known as the feast of lots.
Take back the curse Haman meant the day to be and turn it into blessings. Some ideas are:
- Home-baked gifts of food (bread, cookies, pastries, dinner)
Prepare and bless someone with the traditional mishloach manot. Most consider this a gift of two ready-to-eat food items, although some call for a gift of scripture (Words from the Torah) to help facilitate peace and harmony in a community. I say all of the above!
If you can, designate someone who is poor and truly needy in your community to bless with a meal.
Bonus Step: Celebrate!
Make sure the room is festive and the food is ready.
Have the costumes laid out and ready to dress up in.
Read aloud the story of Esther. Each time the name Esther is mentioned, say, “Ooo lala.”
When you read the name Haman, say, “Boo, hiss.”
When you read the name Mordecai, say, “Our God reigns.”
Have fun with the story. Make sure the kids that can read are also doing a part of the story.
Have the kids act out parts of the drama. Each year they can do this more and more from memory.
Eat the wonderful meal of holiday food cooked for the occasion.
Take the prepared gifts to neighbors and other designated people in the community.
Praise God together.

Is there ever a time when we want our children to forget how God works?
Is there ever a time when it’s not good to celebrate God at work?
This is the time. This is the year. Let us celebrate the Feast of Purim.
There should be so much joy in this celebration that our children and grandchildren look forward to it all year long.
The birth of our Savior is a tremendous occasion that’s anticipated with great excitement.
Purim is also a tremendous occasion we can anticipate with great excitement. Teaching our children how God works and how He provides is a lesson to never forget.
Let us plan for a joyous celebration for the holiday of Purim, following the tradition of God’s people for thousands of years.
The lesson of this party instills in our children how God worked in the life of Esther and His people and how He’s the same today and forever.
When they’re in a situation that seems difficult, even impossible, they’ll remember to fast, and pray and seek the Lord.
He will answer.
How valuable is this for our children and grandchildren? Priceless!
I believe every parent is raising the next Esther or Daniel, youth who learn at a young age how to call on God, fast, pray and leave the results to Him.
We can celebrate these truths every day, but can also delight in setting aside special times to remember and proclaim them. Purim is just such a time to do so!
God wants us to celebrate. The Old Testament is full of festivals and celebrations by God’s people. We’re not bound by Jewish law, yet there are great reasons why Christians should celebrate Purim and other Jewish festivals.
The Israelites celebrated to remember the great and amazing things God has done. But how does this translate for Jesus followers? Why should Christians celebrate Purim?
In Romans 11, we see that Gentile believers (all of us who aren’t ethnically Jewish) have been grafted into the Jewish family and inheritance through Christ.
But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root of the olive tree,
Romans 11:17
We see this echoed in Paul’s letter to the Galatians.
for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.
Galatians 3:26
And extended to assure us that not only does God graft us into His family as sons and daughters of the Lord through faith, but because of those truths, we also receive God’s promises. All of them.
For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him [Jesus] that we utter our Amen to God for his glory. 2 Corinthians 1:20
God’s People Celebrated Purim
We share in the nourishment God gives His people. If we share in His promises and blessings and love, shouldn’t we also share in His celebrations?
Yes!
There is great purpose in setting aside time to remember and reflect on all God has done. And great blessing.
The Lord who rescued His people time and time again is the Lord who has rescued us from death. We celebrate His birth, life, death, and resurrection. But lest we forget a portion of ALL His mighty works, we also want to celebrate His intervening for His people before He walked on earth in flesh.
And that brings us to Purim, the first Jewish celebration of the new year.
Purim - A Special Celebration
Of all the celebrations ever, this is one of my most favorite.
Why? Because it teaches our children and grandchildren how God works. How He worked in the past and how He works today.
Purim has traditionally been a time of tremendous joy and celebration for the Jewish people and can be so for us today.
Let’s forget the meaningless holidays of St. Patrick’s Day and Halloween and have fun with this Biblical holiday.
Every story in God’s Word is about how He’s at work. The story of Esther is no different. It’s about God’s victory and His protection of His people.
I’ll never leave you nor forsake you.
Hebrews 13:5
This verse is the culmination of Esther. And it’s written for us today.
Purim is a story of victory.
Without this victory and the working of God, the Jewish people would have been annihilated. Thus the line of Jesus wouldn’t exist.

When we read the Bible, teach Bible stories to our children, or see cartoon renditions of Bible stories, we don’t always connect with the people and events in an in depth way.
However, by celebrating festivals like Purim helps bring the story home. We can relate more to the individuals involved in the historical events.
So, what is the history behind Purim?
Purim means “lots.” Not like “lots” of food or belongings or people, but as in casting “lots” to make a decision.
This part of the story is very relevant, but actually comes a bit further in the narrative.
We find the story behind the celebration of Purim in the book of Esther, located about halfway through the Old Testament.
Esther is a unique book focusing on a specific series of events that involved a Jewish woman named Esther, her husband who happened to be the king of Persia, a handful of other specific people, and the entire population of Jewish people.
It’s a fascinating, engaging story and I highly recommend you read the whole thing in one sitting. The short ten chapters are an easy read and could be done with a small sacrifice of giving up some social media browsing time.
Or, put it on play while commuting to work, taking a walk, or cooking dinner.
However you can squeeze it in, hear the whole story!
As an overview, however (since you probably won’t pause reading this post to go read it now), here are the basics.
From Hebrew Orphan to Persian Queen
Esther had been captured by the powerful ancient Persian Empire along with many members of the Israelite nation, . An orphan, her uncle Mordecai raised her.
However, the book of Esther doesn’t start with her bio. The opening scene introduces readers to the Persian King Ahasuerus (sometimes translated Xerxes). The king is pleased with his conquests and celebrates with great opulence to show off in front of other dignitaries, royalty, and his military from all over the Persian Empire.
It was a long feast, lasting a full six months. (Can you imagine a party lasting half a year?)
King Ahasuerus had a beautiful wife, Queen Vashti, whom he wanted to put on display. Yet she responded in a way unthinkable at that time. She refused his request.
His response wasn’t quite “off with her head,” but she was banished.
Which is where Esther enters the story.
The king needs a new queen. He sets up a beauty contest where the contestants don't have a choice about participating. However his people give them riches in clothes, jewels, food, and beauty treatments.
Then the king requested the women one by one. A gross practice we can’t imagine today, and one that surely the Lord abhorred. But, God used even this for good.
Esther found favor with King Ahasuerus and became queen.
A lovely Cinderella story. Well, not really. Because the real Prince has yet to show His power and purpose.

We’ll skip a few details that follow (but you’re going to read them before the celebration) and skip to the part that matters for Purim.
Mordecai kept close to the palace, often sitting at the gates. He loved the Lord, which brought him trouble.
The king’s second hand man, Haman, rode out often and puffed himself up, demanding people honor and bow to him. Mordecai refused.
Haman became so incensed that destroying Mordecai wasn’t enough, but he wanted to annihilate Mordecai’s people: the Israelites.
Additional events occur which stoke Haman’s hatred for Mordecai and the Jews, causing him to trick the king into signing a decree to have them put to death.
All of them.
He cast lots to pick the date. This is where the name Purim originates.
At the revelation, Mordecai felt anguish and sought help from Esther. Nervous, as she could approach the king only if requested or he offered pardon for showing up uninvited, she hesitated.
This is where the famous, “such a time as this” speech occurs.
Convinced, Esther pleads with the king and eventually reveals Haman’s plot. (Again, more happens you’ll find in the reading of the whole book.)
King Ahasuerus rages and has Haman put to death. He decrees the Israelites have the right to defend themselves and the nation is rescued.
Through the king of the Persian Empire, the God of Israel rescues the people of Israel.
What a whirlwind!
God's Provision Leads to Worship
Of course, the events occurred over months and years, not a few minutes like we read them. And although the story never mentions the Lord outright, His might, power, and love for His people - the people of Israel - is woven throughout.
This incredible drama, which played out in real life and impacted real people, serves as a wonderful story to remember, celebrate, and recreate in worship of God.
We, as Jesus followers should celebrate the feast of Purim for 2 reasons:
1. Purim teaches how God works in a fun, lively way
Stories of God’s power, love, and miracles aren’t for entertainment. They’re to remind us of God's character and His hand and provision in the past. They also serve as reminders that He still works today.
Children love to read engaging stories. They love to act out fun stories. They also love stories with queens and princesses.
Children love parties.
When children learn the Bible in fun, engaging, and thought-provoking ways, they’ll always remember it.
I know many non-believers who know the story of Daniel in the lion's den. Or the saying “the handwriting is on the wall.”
That’s because these scenarios stick in our mind. They’re vivid, exciting, and captivating.
The same is true of Esther and Haman: another fascinating tale of good versus evil.
All children from the ages of 2 to 22 will enjoy celebrating the victory of Esther.
They’ll remember the story forever.
And most importantly, they’ll learn deeper lessons about the God who saved Esther and her family, who is the same today.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. Hebrews 13:8
This is a promise our children and grandchildren need to hold in their hearts. One they’ll never forget.
The Impact of Purim
The birth of our Savior is important and holds great meaning to a Christian. Yet the record of the events of Esther’s life is also powerful. It shows how God works and how our children can call on Him at any time and see him in their lives.
Purim is a story of God’s love and might.
So tell me, does this make sense?
Do you want your children to know how God works? Then it’s time we celebrate the biblical holiday of Purim every year!
It’s time to remind our children through our own lives that we too know how to…
- seek the Lord.
- fast and pray.
- wait on the Lord for his direction.
In the days ahead, knowing how to fast and pray will be vital for our walk with the Lord.
Let’s join together and teach our children.
The celebration of Purim also includes giving gifts to friends and those in need. Two additional fantastic reasons to celebrate this feast with our family:
- To teach our children to care for others.
- To bless friends, family, and strangers
2. Jesus Celebrated these Festivals
Purim is not specifically mentioned in the New Testament, but it’s most likely the feast John mentions when Jesus healed the man at the pool of Bethesda.
The text reads:
After this there was a feast of the Jews and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
John 5:1
The next verses (2-15) tell about Jesus healing a man suffering from a 38-year-long illness. (Whew! I bet he was sick and tired of being sick and tired!)
The reason we understand this to be Purim is because it takes place before Passover, which is mentioned in the next chapter of John. Both are called a feast of the Jews.
Jews celebrate Purim on the Gentile calendar in February or March, followed by Passover in either March or April. (This year, Purim is February 26 and Passover begins March 27)
Even though Purim wasn’t one of the biblical feasts of the Lord, Jesus was in Jerusalem celebrating the feast.
If Jesus considered these festivals important enough for Him to celebrate and invited non-Jews to join with them, it seems that Christians should accept the invitation and find ways to participate while honoring Jesus.
What do the people represent in the story of Esther?
“Looking deeper into the story of Purim, Haman prefigures Satan and the man of sin known as the antichrist.”
Haman sought to kill God’s ancient people. Annihilate them.
Likewise, Jesus speaks of Satan as a thief who comes to steal, kill, and destroy. (John 10:10)
In Hebrews 2:14, God’s Word tells us that Satan has the power of death. Satan inspired Haman's plot to kill the Jewish people, just as today he inspires people to kill believers around the globe.
Hamans heart was filled with pride. Haman served as a devil-motivated enemy of the Jews.
Haman devised and plotted destruction. Yet, like Haman the false messiah is also doomed.
Like Mordecai, Jesus will be exalted and honored. He will wear the king's clothes and a crown on his head. He’ll ride a white horse, the symbol of victory.
Every knee will bow and every tongue confesses that Jesus is Lord to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:9-11)
Every one of us is under the sentence of death.
For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.
Romans 3:23
Yet God has not left us defenseless. He wrote a new decree. It‘s been carried to all the provinces of the world by God’s covenant.
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him has everlasting life. For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world, but that world through him might be saved.
John 3:16-17
Watch this video where I talk about the reasons why Christians should celebrate Purim:
Esther - A Messenger of Deliverance to Come
As Esther interceded for her people, Jesus has intercede for us. He not only fulfilled the role of Esther, but He also took on the curse of Haman as He was hanged on a tree: punishment meant for us.
That tree of the cross has been lifted high for the entire world to see.
Jesus interceded for us on the cross by taking the curse of sin for us.
But while Esther presented herself on the third day to an immoral, unstable king, Jesus rose from the grave at the end of three days and three complete nights and presented Himself to a holy God as atonement for sin.
And living forevermore, He continues to intercede for us.
Therefore, He is able to save the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
Hebrews 7:25
See that word “uttermost?” It means completely and at all times. There is nothing that He can’t save us from. Anyone can be saved by His grace through faith.
What an amazing testimony of His great love for us!
Purim - The Impact of this Biblical Celebration Today
Christians today - that is you and me - can learn from this. Yes, let’s celebrate our God and how He redeems us today. But let us also learn to live like Esther and Mordecai.
- To fast and pray when the world exalts wicked people.
- To fight the spiritual powers seeking to exalt the wicked and destroy the righteous.
Not only that, let’s teach our children to live like those who stayed strong in the Lord despite dire, dangerous, and demoralizing circumstances.
We don’t want to raise our children to be happy, wealthy, fun adults. We want to raise them to be the next generation of people who follow God like Esther, Mordecai, Daniel, and a host of other faithful individuals we read about in scripture
God has brought us here at this time. Yes, as many are saying, for such a time as this.
God designated you and me for this exact moment in history. God loves you that much.
Celebrate Victory Today!
Remember, victory has a name: Jesus.
Never forget. We must rely on the Lord’s for strength, engage in the battle, and arm ourselves with fasting and prayer.
He is faithful to bring about the salvation and protection of His people as He did in this magnificent drama.
Sometimes it won’t look so neat and seamless.
Sometimes it will seem like God isn’t listening.
Often, God holds us in a waiting period - as Mordecai waited before receiving his reward for saving the king’s life (another tidbit you’ll find in the full reading of the book) and as Esther waited in bringing her request to the king.
Purim is a time of abundant joy and celebration of God’s goodness and provision. His people eat and drink, exchange presents, don costumes, and bless others, including the poor.
What great rejoicing the Israelites must have commenced when the town criers revealed their rescue! God has also rescued us. Let us celebrate.
