How do you trust God in all areas of your life?
Our everyday life has all kinds of stresses and struggles.
For most of us, life has so many ups and downs, sprinkled with some very tough challenges and some really great times!
During these life events, is it in your routine to open your Bible and remind yourself of God's principles, or to connect with God in a prayer?
With accessible research at the tips of our fingers these days, it can all become quite a distraction from God. It's also easy to become attached to the information that's available for us to grab at the very moment that we have something on our minds.
We may not even realize how overwhelming it's becoming... pushing us into anxiousness. Is this diet the right diet? Is this how I should be doing my finances? Can these 'simple steps' I read about on that blog be what my marriage needs? Can Annette's food tips here fix my anxiety?
Well, to be honest....? The answers you're looking for are not on that channel, in that blog, or in that recipe book. Searching for answers in the whirlwind of Google (and this is likely how you stumbled upon me here, but you're in the right place!) can be a tunnel that leads to nowhere when it comes to the true answers for life.
From here, I hope you are reminded of how much God LOVES YOU. He has designed you, and He is the answer to the problems of anxiety, food, sleep, marriage, finances.... the list goes on.
He is here for you. He loves you.
And I promise you, when you follow these 3 steps as a guide, you will be brought closer to God.
From there you will be able to draw strength, and a healthy life will follow. Your daily connection with God will feel more natural and comfortable, and you'll know He is there at every moment to get you through life's rollercoasters.
What does the Bible say about trusting God?
In Proverbs 3:5-6, the Bible tells us to "Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Lean not on your own understanding in all your ways. Acknowledge Him and he will direct your path." It sounds good when you read it, but even better when you get to apply it to your life!
There is no degree or guru that is going to give you all the answers you need to make everything in your life make sense. We are not meant to understand everything until we make our way to Heaven. So in the mean time, trusting God is critical to maintaining a healthy life.
God knows what You're Going Through
He knows of all the sins, the anxiety, and the difficulties... He knows about your comfort foods that you may be hiding behind, or your the fancy things you buy in attempts to help you feel happiness. He know about your genetics and your family problems...
And although we find physical and emotional health to be so complicated, it was never meant to be.
Scripture promises that God can heal, and by having faith that He can handle all circumstances of our lives, that opens us up to live the life He has designed for us.
Isn't that beautiful?
So what does it mean to fully trust in Him?
How do we follow God when it seems death is imminent?
In Isaiah 55 God says, "For my thoughts are not your thoughts and my ways are not your ways." It's hard to understand the Lord's guidance and direction when we don't think like Him.
Now, we don't want to get this confused with neglect. Trust does not mean to just float through life saying "oh, well" to every up and down. Trust means the very opposite. It means that God gives you strength to study His word when there are so many opportunities for distraction.
It takes strength to trust that God is all you need to guide your finances... marriage... weight loss... whatever it may be for you.
How to trust in the Lord everyday
Step 1 - Lean on God's Understanding, Not Yours
You've got to learn to lean not on your own understanding, and start listening to Him. Let go of what you think, and listen. Trusting God frees your mind to see what God sees. This will free you.
Our vision is so limited! God sees tomorrow and years down the road. God knows what happened yesterday... The people, our environment, pain, joy, our circumstances... they are always changing. But God and His words are never changing. He is still the same God that he was yesterday and will be tomorrow.
So trusting our own eyes and understanding of the world, that which is always changing, will very well lead us onto a tough, painful path.
So how do we do that?
Say you have received some news that requires you to act; news that is prompting you to make a big decision on your life or for a loved one.
Take some time alone, in a quiet place, and listen to what God has to say to your heart. Prayer and study of scripture are two of the best ways to get close to Jesus when you need to make a decision.
His dependable answers are written right there in the Bible, and the quiet closeness we achieve with prayer will be exactly what's needed to guide you to make any critical medical or financial decision... or any other decision for that matter.
Study His principles in Scripture
How to be strong and trust in God? It is in the scriptures where you will find his answers.
Our worries and our attempts to take control of what is already designed for us can only weigh us down and cause pain in one way, shape, or form. And worrying is not trusting in God.
Let go and let God.
Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God -Psalms 20:7
Step 2 - Acknowledge Him
Acknowledging Him everyday makes trusting God so much easier!
Bringing light to Jesus in our everyday lives can give us the strength we need to trust in God. Talk to Him, praise Him, worship Him, study Him, follow Him, and love Him.
With this you will find peace and be able to feel what God wants for you. And even when you can't understand why you're experiencing whatever it is you're going through, He is there. Spending time praising and acknowledging Jesus throughout every day will make it so easy to put your trust on God and have faith that He is guiding your steps.
After all, when you fill every day with the love of Jesus Christ, it's a lot less likely you'll be distracted by secular guidance, and you'll be able to find long-term peace. How Amazing.
In all your ways, acknowledge Him. - Proverbs 3:6
Step 3 - Follow His directions
The scripture says he will direct your path. He will tell you what to do. And that's just it! We don't have to be confused. We don't have to get caught up in this windstorm of nutrition and health information that we can find everywhere else.
Embody faith and trust God.
He will tell you what to do.
You know, when I struggled with my health it was a long, arduous journey. It was a journey that God tried to show me answers, but I wasn't listening. I had other excuses that I was paying attention to and so those years of neglecting my trust in Him with my health cost me a lot.
It cost me years of being overweight, years of just feeling like I was unworthy because of my weight issues, and other bad signs. Well, I want to share with you that God knew everything about my life, and God knows all about what you're experiencing, too.
How to Trust God and Not Get Lost
You just need to follow his directions. It's so easy to get lost... like I did.
But with these 3 steps, you can save yourself years of poor health, marriage struggling, stress from children, or financial strain... whatever that is your mountain to climb. Rely on His word.
He is the light for your path.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and light unto my path. - Psalm 119:105
So what does trusting God mean for my health?
Let's talk about that and what that means for you.
Think about food, for instance.
How many people do you know of that have a food identity problem?... Probably more than you realize.
Many equate food with comfort, love, and stability. You must realize that food has no arms. Food has no feet. Food has no ability to say I love you. We need to stop going to food and trusting God for it to be there for us and our emotions.
Fully Rely on Him as Your Daily Bread
Sure, it's there all right. But the more we rely on food to save us, the more food starves us from the love that our Father wants to show us.
When you eat for nourishment and satisfaction, that's great! But when we eat beyond satisfaction and rely on food to get us through, this is a sign that you are not putting your complete trust in the Lord. When we have an emotional difficulty, relying on food to make us feel better is not leaning on Jesus.
It is a total body transformation to trust God with your health.
One meal at a time, one exercise routine at a time, one moment at a time.
The Takeaway
When you change what you believe about who you are and start recognizing God is your true source of strength, He will provide. He will keep you in His hand and no one can touch you.
You are His child and He will not let you go astray. By having the discipline to trust in Him with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, acknowledging him every single day, and follow his directions, you'll find that the answers were right there all along.
God loves you.
Praise God and God the Holy Spirit. This is just what I needed right now with all that I’m going through.
