I don’t love stepping on toes, but there are often hard truths I’m compelled to share. This is because I love you and know God loves you and He wants the best for you. That means when we gain knowledge, we should use it. Today, that knowledge is about the top 7 harmful ingredients you should never eat.
This list is the evil of our day in the grocery store. And they may be killing you.
I hope you’re ready, because I may point out some ingredients in your favorite foods. Are you ready to be healthy? To live a vibrant, abundant life?
Are We What We Eat?
Most of us know this old saying. We are so much more than what we eat, but what we put in our bodies has a huge impact on how we live.
If we desire abundant, excellent health, then this should spark the desire to make changes to our eating habits.
When we eat junk, we feel crummy.
When we eat live, nutrient-rich, God-given foods, our cells respond with amazing energy. Then, we can be on mission, obediently following God’s direction and call in our lives with the greatest mental clarity, stamina, and strength.
I want that for you! And we can achieve it together.
This is why I want everyone to understand what we’re eating. Why certain ingredients and foods are detrimental to our health.
How many of these harmful ingredients in food have you been consuming daily?
Perhaps you’re not sure. And won’t even be sure after reading this until you check the labels in your pantry. (Which I HIGHLY recommend doing!)
For many, this post on foods to avoid and foods to NEVER eat will be an eye opener.
The enemy wants to destroy - or ruin - you. He can even do that through the foods we eat.
Don’t let the enemy ruin your health! Arm yourself with the truth and fight back.
Starting today, say, “Not anymore. Food has no grip on me. I eat for life, not for death.”
Here are the worst foods you could possibly buy, store in your pantry, and eat. After watching this video, you'll learn more about these foods you'll never want to eat again.
Harmful Chemicals In Food Ingredients
Why these foods?
Because these are some of the worst foods for causing inflammation. Inflammation doesn’t just cause water retention, it damages many parts of the body.
Definitely avoid these foods if you have arthritis or want to lose weight. If you’re looking to lose weight, you should never ever eat these foods.
And most of all, these slow poison foods are just some of the foods that cause cancer, Alzheimer's disease, heart disease, kidney disease, and so much more!
Harmful Food Ingredients To Avoid
So what are these unhealthy food ingredients? Here they are:
1. Artificial Flavors
Artificial flavorings are derived from chemicals made in a laboratory and offer absolutely no nutritional value and are a magnet for processed foods. They show up in almost everything today, including bread, cereals, flavored yogurt, soups mixes, and cocktail mixers, so they can be hard to avoid.
They cause:
Neurotoxicity
Organ damage
Reproductive toxicity (contributing to the alarming rate of infertility)
Cancer
2. Hydrogenated Or Fractionated Oils
We’re more familiar with the term trans fats, which has been removed from most levels. We most likely won’t find “hydrogenated” or “partially hydrogenated oils” on a label.
However the processing hasn’t improved as we’d desire.
Fractionating oil is a process most often used on palm and palm kernel oil that involves heating the oil, then cooling it quickly so that it breaks up into fractions (hence the name). It’s very uncommon to find the term “hydrogenated,” but the ingredients are still out there and still harmful.
Hydrogenated oils are oils that are often healthy in their natural state, but are quickly turned into poisons through the manufacturing and processing they undergo.
They take these naturally healthy oils such as palm, kernel, soybean, corn oil, canola oil, or coconut oil and heat it anywhere from five hundred to one thousand degrees.
The key thing in the filtration process is it separates most of the liquid part of the oil, leaving the solid, unhealthy fat, making it toxic for human consumption.
If the above oils are listed on the label of a prepackaged item, most likely it wasn’t added in its natural state, but only after going through this excessive heating technique.
What we want are unrefined, unprocessed oils. Instead, we want:
Extra virgin olive oil
Avocado oil
Coconut oil (unrefined)
3. Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)
The food additive “MSG” is a slow poison that hides behind dozens of names, such as:
natural flavoring
yeast extract
autolyzed yeast extract
disodium guanylate
disodium inosinate
caseinate
textured protein
hydrolyzed pea protein
...and many others.
Currently, labeling standards do not require MSG to be listed in the ingredient list of thousands of foods. MSG is not a nutrient, vitamin, or mineral and has no health benefits.
The negative impact of this ingredient may not be noticed after a small amount, but the accumulative effect can be very detrimental.
MSG can cause:
Migraines
Seizures
Obesity
ALS
Parkinson’s
Infections
Alzeihmer’s
MSG, like many things, can be a natural substance, but that’s not what’s put in our food.
So, why do manufactures include MSG? It’s a flavor enhancer that causes us to love to eat and eat more and more of the products that have MSG.
4. Potassium Benzoate (Sodium Benzoate)
Sodium Benzoate can convert into lethal carcinogenic poison when combined with ascorbic acid. Potassium benzoate often shows up in seemingly innocuous foods such as apple cider, low-fat salad dressings, syrups, jams, olives, and pickles.
This ingredient damages DNA! How scary is that?
Scary enough, that we should be motivated to make our own salad dressings, etc. or buy them from a local farmer who you know uses natural ingredients.
5. Artificial Colors
Food colorings still on the market are linked with cancer.
Blue 1 and 2 - linked to cancer in mice
Red 3 - linked to thyroid cancer (and hyperactivity)
Green - linked to bladder cancer
Yellow 5 - linked to adrenal and kidney tumors
With the epidemic of cancer in our culture, there are many changes we can make to reduce our risk. This is an easy one!
If there’s an ingredient that’s shown to be cancer causing, let’s throw it out.
6. Acesulfame-K
Acesulfame-K, also known as acesulfame potassium, represents one of the food additives used for sweetening aliments and drinks.
It is approved by the FDA, but there are several potential problems correlated with the consumption of this food additive.
Even though there are many studies that attest to its safety, acesulfame potassium is still suspected of contributing to benign thyroid tumors.
Acesulfame-K may not be the cause itself, but the methylene chloride that’s used to process it. So, while the “experts” will say this ingredient doesn’t cause cancer. What they refuse to say is that the process used can create a carcinogenic effect.
Watch out for sucralose, too. It’s not healthy food. Nor are any other artificial sweeteners. Stick to natural sugar options instead.
7. Potassium Sorbate
This is harder to find on labels, but it’s out there. And we need to avoid it at all costs.
Many scientists say this ingredient isn’t toxic. However, it’s an altered chemical with carcinogenic effects.
It’s commonly found in ice cream and baked goods.
As one of the most prolific preservatives in the food industry, it is difficult to find an ice cream without potassium sorbate. However, it is not only recommended to avoid this chemical, it’s a necessity to eliminate it from our foods.
Food and chemical toxicology reports have labeled potassium sorbate as a carcinogen, showing positive mutation results in the cells of mammals. Other studies have shown broad systemic and toxic effects on non-reproductive organs in animals.
What Food Additives Are Harmful?
These are the top 7 ingredients frequently included in our foods to avoid, but unfortunately there are many more.
I want you to also be on the lookout for these sneaky additives that have no nutritional value and damage health:
Soy Lecithin (eat only soy products that are non-GMO)
Polysorbate 80
Corn (OK if non-GMO)
Sodium chloride
Propyl Gallate
BHT & BHA
Harmful Food Ingredients
Now, if you haven’t already, head to the pantry, search out these items in packaged foods and toss them!
Don’t wait until they’re finished. Don’t even give it to a neighbor. Pitch it. Toss those highly processed items in the trash. Or take it back to the grocery store, letting them know you're allergic to it (it does harm your body, after all!) and get your money back.
You are worth feeding your body as if you’re royalty. Wait! You are royalty. You’re the child of the King of kings who loves you with an everlasting love! So, live like it.
Avoiding these foods follows the 3 Principles of Healthy Living that are the key to excellent health.
If you’re heard me say it once, you’re heard me say it a thousand times: God designed the best food, not science.
Eating Food Abundant Health
Most of what we see in grocery stores, however, are from a lab, not from nature.
Our food industry has been taken over by scientists experimenting in labs to get cheaper and easier ingredients, not healthier foods.
They want to increase profits and extend shelf life, not improve your health.
Lab experiments require rats, and I don’t want to be a lab rat. Do you?
Even though I’ve shared the information showing these ingredients cause harm to our organ systems, we’re more than a collection of organ systems.
What affects one system affects the whole body.
These foods aren’t life-promoting. They’re life-inhibiting. They’re harming us even when we don’t realize it.
It may be a difficult change (especially for younger ones!), since these ingredients are created in such a way that causes our brains to crave them and expect these types of flavors.
Our brains won’t want to give up what we’ve been giving them (because they’re addicted to them), but when we hold out and are strong enough to make healthy changes, it’ll pay back in abundant health - mental, physical, and emotional.
Years from now, you’ll be able to look back with gratitude - just like I have - and say, “Yes! I chose life and health.”
ANNETTE REEDER
Annette holds a B.S. in Nutrition plus a Diploma of Biblical Studies. She has been studying food, nutrition and medical science for over 30 years. "I am here for one purpose, to awaken you to the simple vibrant health that God has designed for you!"
How much water do you drink every day? Do you track how much you drink? Did you know over 75% of the time people snack it is because they are thirsty?!
Today I want to share how to make drinking water enjoyable and even classy! Here are 5 recipes for how to make nutritious Infused Water! These infusions are easy to make and you likely have many of these ingredients in your fridge or garden!
Benefits of Infused Water
When we replace snacking with drinking these refreshing – summer experience – waters, we lose weight plus so much more. Here is a list of benefits from drinking fruit, veggie, herb infused water:
Reduce appetite feeling and promote weight loss
Reduce stress and slow down the aging process
Great flavor without adding sugar, thus reducing sugar intake
Flush out unwanted bacteria and toxins
Feel rejuvenated
Stimulates better brain function, alertness, and focus
Strengthens the digestive and immune system
Improves skin complexion
Boosts energy and relieves fatigue
Infused Water While At A Restaurant
I try to be mindful of my choices when I dine in a restaurant. When they take our drink order I ask if they have any fresh herbs such as parsley, cilantro or mint. They have all had at least one of these. I then ask for hot lemon water served with the herbs on the side.
I have been so happy to enjoy my infused water before my meals comes. It brings satiety sooner and I desire to eat less. Plus it is so much more refreshing than the soda and fake lemonade typically served in restaurants.

When it comes to fat, we have the good, the bad, the ugly and the confusing. But how do you know one from the other? What are the facts about fats in the Bible?
The Bible provides a lot of information on how to maintain good health. A part of that plan is for us to have the right balance in the foods He called ‘good’ for us. This includes grains, meats, vegetables, fruits, and oils.
Read to the end to learn fun tips for beautiful skin!
Oils and fats are both mentioned in the Old Testament (Covenant), but only oil is mentioned in the New Testament. The Hebrew word shemen and the Greek word elaion are the words most often used for oil in the Old and New Testaments, and they refer to the oil from olives.
Shemen was used for lighting, anointing and burning (see Exodus 25:6, 35:28). It was also used for cooking purposes (Numbers 11:8; Deuteronomy 8:8).
In the New Testament elaion was primarily used for lighting and anointing (Matthew 25:3-4, Mark 6:13, Luke 7:46, Hebrews 1:9, James 5:14).
Fat is another issue. When the Bible talks about fat, it is typically referring to fats used for sacrifices and eating. For instance, Leviticus 3:17 says, “This shall be a perpetual statute throughout your generations in all your dwellings; you shall eat neither fat nor blood.”
Dr Rex Russell, in his book: What the Bible Says About Healthy Living, says: “When Leviticus 3:17 forbids eating fat, it is not referring to the internal, marbling fat in the meat of clean animals, but to the two other kinds of fat: the fat of unclean animals and the cover fat, including that of clean animals.”
All Fats Aren't Bad
Fats got a bad rap in the 90’s. Low-fat foods were touted as the best, healthiest choices. People and companies recommended and pushed highly processed foods as healthy alternatives to natural foods containing fat.
Following this craze people suddenly dealt with greater levels of hormonal imbalance, dry skin, acne, mental fog, and much more.
However, fats designed by our Creator bring healing to the body and softness to the skin.
Thankfully, some common sense has begun to reign again. Common sense that matches what God intended.
Natural foods - the Bible Diet - with natural fat are actually good for us. Especially when eaten in their healthiest form.

Why Are Healthy Fats Important
Fats are a concentrated source for energy as well as building blocks for cell membranes and hormones.
Do you remember those fat-soluble vitamins: A, D, E, and K?
These vitamins need fat from your diet as their “Amtrak” to move them to the body’s tissues.
Consuming a low-fat or no-fat diet increases the risk of a deficiency of vitamins A, D, E, and K in your cells. We definitely don’t want to do that!
These vitamins bypass the bloodstream and go directly into the lymph system to help build the immune system. They get there by using the healthy fats in our body to travel. Fats are a carrier for nutrition.
The blood stream is water-based, so it cannot transport these fat soluble nutrients.
No wonder so many people had problems after adopting a “low-fat” diet!
Good Fats Vs Bad Fats
All fats are not the same. Some fats are used well by the body for important jobs.
Other fats, those altered by man - remember the three principles? - clog up the body’s systems and cause disease.
Good Fats Facts
Good fats have many benefits, which include, but aren’t limited to:
Highest caloric density, above protein and carbohydrates: 9 calories per gram
One tablespoon contains 120 calories
Act as an intestinal lubricant - this means less inflammation
Keep you feeling full longer and satisfied after a meal by staying in the digestive tract longer - which protects the microbiome!
Generate body heat
Soothe the nerves and protect the nerve cells - perfect for people dealing with stress!
Required by all body cells - Bingo!
Bad Fats Facts
Bad fats - altered by man fats - cause disease and other health problems. Consequences of consuming bad fats or too many good fats include:
Excess fat is stored in the liver, arteries around the heart, and in all tissues
High altered-fat consumption is linked to cancer, obesity, and heart disease
Fat cells in the body can grow to 1000 times their size to store more fat
Some fats are created within the body and others are required from our food consumption. Those required from food are known as essential.
Altered fats are not essential.
Fats In The Bible Diet
There are four basic types of dietary fats:
Saturated
Monounsaturated
Polyunsaturated (Omega 3 & 6)
Trans-fats
Saturated Fatty Acids
These fats once wore the scarlet letter as heart attacks were attributed to them. They come primarily from animal and dairy products and can be recognized easily as those fats which are hard at room temperature.
These fats replace good fats in the body’s cellular structure when there’s a deficiency of good fats in the diet. A high intake of these fats was once believed to increase cholesterol, heart disease, and cancer.
This theory was totally proven wrong when science saw again the truth of God’s design, even if they’d refuse to admit it.
Foods with saturated fat considered bad include:
Bacon
Beef
Hard cheese
Milk
Fatty meat products also have a high percentage of saturated fats.
Saturated fats considered good include:
Organic or raw butter
Coconut oil
Palm oil - organic
However, foods such as animal and dairy products farmed in organic ways have proven to be a healthier option than the medicated meats and dairy products. This has led to the confusion of bad versus good fats.
Fats And The Three Principles
How’s one to know what to do?!?
Education is definitely the key, but everyone doesn’t have time to read reams of research.
Once again, we find ourselves back to the 3 Principles of Healthy Living. These timeless principles apply to all food/health questions.
These 3 Principles applied to fats show foods God called ‘good’ are always going to be life promoting(principle 1).
Foods altered by man (principle 2) - will always bring death to the cell. This altering can include the raising of animals in unhealthy environments, feeding animals GMO feed, heating fats to high levels, or treating oils with chemicals to strip of nutrition and create longer shelf life.
Each of these alterations leads to disease in our bodies.
Addictions to fats(principle 3) - ice creams, fried foods, restaurant foods - will continually lead to disease.
In addition to the fats we eat, saturated fatty acids can also be produced in our body by eating refined sugars. That’s why low fat diets rarely work and aren’t effective long term.
Saturated fatty acids are not essential to our diet and can contribute to obesity and health problems.
Saturated fatty acids produced by eating refined sugars interfere with essential fatty acid functions in the body and increase the chances of fatty liver disease.
For these reasons, always remember that every bite matters!
Monounsaturated Fatty Acids
Monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats are close relatives to each other and are the “good guys.”
These fats remain liquid at room temperature. Good sources of monounsaturated fat include:
Olive oil
Almond
Pistachio
Pecan
Avocados
Nuts
Seeds (including flax seeds)
Olive oil and some nuts also contain important polyunsaturated fat.
Polyunsaturated fatty acids
The polyunsaturated fatty acid family includes gamma linolenic acid (GLA), Linoleic acid, and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) - omega 3s and omega 6s.
These names are long yet they are your best friend for anti-aging and hormonal happiness :).
Each has their own characteristics, many of which we’ll highlight below.
This gets a bit scientific, but hang in there! It’s so helpful to know how our bodies react to the foods God has provided and those man has created.
We want health and knowledge is a big part of acquiring it.
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Hosea 4:6
Omega 3
Omega 3 fatty acids are essential.
One name for them is alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). In addition to ALA, there are two other Omega-3 fatty acids: docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA).
Benefits associated with Omega-3 fatty acids include:
Helps reduce all forms of arthritis
Helps lessen viral infections
Reduces cholesterol and triglycerides levels
Lowers the risk of heart attack, stroke, and hardening of the arteries
Improves psoriasis
Improves immune response
Lowers effect of harmful body chemicals
Improves brain function - now we are thinking good things!
Reduces severity of migraine headaches
Improves liver and pancreas function
Reduces cystic fibrosis
Omega 3 Foods
Good sources of Omega-3 include:
Pumpkin seed oil
Flax seeds
Walnuts
Pine nuts
Pecans
Cold water fish (sardines, mackerel, and salmon)
Wheat germ - always included when you mill fresh wheat berries 🙂
Sesame seed oil
Sunflower oils
Omega 6
Omega-6 fatty acids are also essential fatty acids.
Benefits associated with Omega 6 include:
Healthy brain function
Normal growth and development
Stimulated hair and skin growth
Maintaining bone health
Regulating metabolism
Maintaining the reproductive system
Helps with:
Diabetic neuropathy
Rheumatoid arthritis
Allergies
ADHD
Breast cancer
Hypertension
Eczema
MS
PMS
Healthy Foods high in Omega 6 include:
Meat: Poultry, fish
Eggs
Nuts and seeds
Peanut Butter
Safflower oil
Omega 3 Vs Omega 6
A healthy diet contains a proper ratio balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.
Omega-3 fatty acids help reduce inflammation, and altered omega-6 fatty acids tend to promote inflammation. The typical American diet tends to contain 14-25 times more omega-6 fatty acids than omega-3 fatty acids.
Following the 3 principles, which is similar to the proven Mediterranean diet, has a healthy balance between omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.
If you want to reduce inflammation, a better balance between omega 3’s and 6’s is a must!
The Mediterranean diet doesn’t include processed and altered foods that create high percentages of arachidonic acid which leads directly to inflammation.
Dr. Couey explains that here in this excerpt from the video series: Treasures of Healthy Living.
Foods in perfect ratio balance include: whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, fish, olive oil, and garlic. All God designed and approved! A perfect match for The Bible Diet!
Trans-Fats
Trans fatty acids are formed when natural vegetable oil is heated and hydrogenated to convert a liquid into a solid. Man’s attempt to improve on God’s design continues to fail.
Although it prolongs the shelf life of popular foods, the process destroys the beneficial essential fatty acids.
Hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils are major sources of trans fatty acids. At this point it seems they have been eliminated from processed foods, yet I still find them in every aisle.
Good Fats Sources And Tips
Want to know how to pick the best fats and oils? Follow the tips below:
Purchase cold or expeller-pressed oils (unrefined).
Avoid hardened oils (hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated). Must read the label to be a wise shopper!
Never reuse oil that has been used for frying.
All oils should be stored in a cool, dark cupboard.
Never consume oil that smells rancid. Or seeds or nuts that smell rancid.
Olive oil maintains a longer shelf life than most oils.
Don’t let oils heat up to smoking.
To sauté or stir fry, use 2 tablespoons of water in the oil.
Take one vitamin E capsule (must be a natural supplement and not synthetic), puncture it (small hole), and put the capsule in the bottle of olive oil. This will keep the oil from going rancid. Secret Trick 🙂
Healthy Fats In The Bible
Olives are always the first fat to consider when studying foods of the Bible.
Is any sick among you?...Let them...pray over him anointing him with oil…. James 5:14
The olive tree was the most valuable and versatile tree of biblical times. Many, many passages contain reference to olives, olive trees, olive yards and olive oils.
Remember the Good Samaritan? He treated the wounded traveler with oil and wine.
Get this shirt and more here
The Lord called your name, a green olive tree, beautiful in fruit and form. Jeremiah 11:16
Since the time of Noah, the olive branch has been seen as a symbol of peace. For the Jews, olive oil was a sign of God’s blessing, because it represents all that is best in life.
It’s been noted that no tree is more closely associated with the history of man and the development of civilization than the olive tree.
Olives and olive oil have been studied extensively to prove their healing properties. As always, God’s design is best!
Among the Arabs and Bedouins in the Middle East, it’s common to drink a small amount of olive oil each morning. One Arab told a friend of mine, “It’s good for greasing the bones!”
Olive Oil Confirms The Covenant
When preparing a burnt offering, God instructed Moses to prepare the meal with fine flour mixed with a quarter hin (one and one third gallones) of olive oil. Olive oil is recognized as one of God’s greatest natural gifts to mankind.
It was used for anointing the kings and the elements in the tabernacle.
When we visited Israel for our mission to build a biblical foods garden in the center of Jerusalem, we took time to harvest olives.
It was so fascinating to see the use of a rake to brush the trees to get the olives to release. We had to be careful not to let the olives be bruised.
Olives are very bitter at first. It takes time to bring them to a flavor that is most palatable. Oh, but when this is done, the whole body says, “Hooray!”
Olive Oil Nutrition Facts
There are four pressings of olives that bring forth the olive oil:
Extra virgin: the first pressing from the olives and the purest - this was used for anointing.
Virgin: second pressing used for lighting the temple.
Pure: olive oil marked ‘pure’ has undergone some form of processing and filtering.
Extra light: this oil has been heavily processed and has very little flavor.
Long before humans knew the intricacies of the nutrients contained in olives and olive oil, they were celebrated as beneficial.
Now, science has shown us why.
Olive oil is mostly (about ¾) monounsaturated fats. The rest is polyunsaturated fats, both of which we know are good for us and promote health.
Olive Oil Benefits
Because they’re rich in these “good” fats, olives and olive oil:
Strengthen cell membranes
Retard cancer growth
Lower bad cholesterol and raise good cholesterol
Reduce the production of gallstones
Have healing and anti-inflammatory effects
Stimulate bile flow
Improve brain maturation
Stimulate the production of fat-digesting enzymes in the pancreas
Reduce gastric acidity
Protect against ulcers
Help prevent constipation
Aid normal bone growth
Are rich in vitamin E, one of the best antioxidants available
If you’re trying to reduce the amount of fat in your diet to avoid the risk of heart disease, think of olive oil as an ideal replacement for other oils and fats. Anything that can be sautéd in butter, can be sautéd in olive oil.
Not only will you be helping your heart, but also you will be pleasing your taste buds.
And remember, extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) is from the first press, and therefore closest to the way God designed it and the best choice.
It may cost a little more, but EVOO contains more of those natural ingredients credited with fighting heart disease. When it comes to olive oil, we get what we pay for.
Investing in quality food is cheaper than medicine!
Olive Oil Natural Remedies
Olive oil is useful for so much more than nutrition, even though that would be enough. It can be used for several benefits we’ll all want to celebrate.
For Shining Hair: After shampooing, rub in a mixture of olive oil and egg yolk and the juice of one lemon. Leave in 5 minutes and wash out.
To Prevent Dandruff: Rub a mixture of olive oil and cologne into the hair and scalp. Rinse.
For Dry Skin: Make a face mask with an avocado and olive oil. Leave on for 10 minutes and rinse.
To Prevent Wrinkles: Rub a mixture of olive oil and the juice of a lemon into the skin before going to bed.
To Soften the Skin: Mix together equal parts of olive oil and salt. Massage in well, then wash off with cool water.
For Weak Nails: soak the nails for 5 minutes in warm olive oil. Then pat the nails with white iodine.
For Tired Feet: Massage with olive oil.
For Aching Muscles: Massing with a mixture of olive oil and rosemary.
To Clear Acne: Try a mixture of 8 ounces olive oil and 10 drops of lavender oil.
For High Blood Pressure: Boil 24 olive leaves in 8 ounces of water for 15 minutes. Allow to cool. Drink the infusion morning and night for two weeks.
Caution: Olive oil has a slightly laxative effect, so when you are changing over to olive oil in your diet make sure to do so gradually. Also it is imperative to consult your doctor before making any changes to your prescriptions or use this information for medical advice.
Good Fats for You
My hope and desire is that the issue of fats, beneficial versus harmful, is clearer to you.
In all aspects of healthy living, we want to fill our recipe box with the best ingredients. Good oils definitely go on the grocery list!
Instead of following fads or fashionable diet trends, we aim to gain abundant health and vitality by looking to God’s Word and principles. Each and every time we do, our cup of blessings will fill to overflowing. A great place to start is with this list of foods in the Bible.
But let’s not neglect the most important ingredient which is God’s love for you.
He loves you with a perfect, everlasting love!
Keep that as the key ingredient to the dishes of life every day and each day you’ll be able to say, “Today is an Amen Day!
How To Build Immunity To Covid - With Or Without The Vaccine
Early in 2020, a novel coronavirus, since dubbed Covid-19, invaded the world and took over many aspects of life. Amid unknowns and fears, everyone and everything was impacted. There have been many ups and downs, but since this virus is here to stay, it’s important to know how to build immunity for covid - with or without the vaccine.
I’m not here to debate the vaccine, its efficacy, or the politics that have played a huge role in its rollout.
No, I’m here to share with you invaluable information about what you can do every day to boost your immune system.
Our ministry is all about the Treasures of Healthy Living and when a once in a lifetime virus shows up is no exception.
Much of our health is in the power of our own hands - and what we put in our bodies.
Build Your Immunity To Covid
Whether or not you have gotten or plan to get the Covid Vaccine, your immunity needs protecting and improving.
We are living in new times and everyone is learning a new language: antigens, antibodies, vaccine passports, immunity, plus so much more.
As the Biblical Nutritionist, it’s my joy to share with you how immunity works and why it matters - whether you have the Covid-19 vaccine or not.
Regardless of what we choose, we can improve our immune system.
Our bodies were created to heal and to protect. This God-designed system has His fingerprints all over it.
Just the T cells in our bodies are indicative of His amazing design.

What Are T-Cells?
T Cells are named such because they’re made in the Thymus gland.
These cells go on a warpath when a foreign antigen - bacteria, agent, or other intruder - enters the body.
As Dr Couey, our teacher in our Treasures of Healthy Living DVD Series, shares: T cells take no hostages; their design is to kill and destroy. And as he’s seen under a microscope as a professor at Baylor University, they do it aggressively.
This is God’s design.
Some T cells go out to kill, and some serve as memory cells. They see the villain and remember its fingerprints and the next time they try to enter they say, “We know you. You tried to cause harm last time. You aren’t welcome here.”
And they send out the killers to attack the newly arrived invaders.
T cells are multiplied as needed! This is another miraculous part of God’s beautiful design. It could never happen through happenstance or evolution.
Imagine a committee of scientists trying to design an immune system that works sometimes and somewhat, while God did it perfectly in His omniscient power and with a simple word.
What Happens In An Immune Response To Covid
The immune response in your body happens without your awareness when it is healthy. And that’s the purpose of this blog post. To help you understand how the body’s immune system was designed to work and what you can do to help it work at its best.
Our body must be in optimal health for it to be armed at its fullest extent.
Again, this matters not whether you’ve had the Covid-19 vaccine or not. Your immune system faces an attack in both situations.
Optimal health is not guaranteed. It’s a choice. And the choice is yours.
Build Immunity
Viruses come and go every day. A primed immune response will handle most instances without your notice. Again – God's design. His desire is for us to stay on mission and not be sidetracked.
The enemy, on the other hand, tries to derail our mission and keep us buoyed by fear and uncertainty.
Do we need to concern ourselves about our immune systems if we've had the Covid-19 vaccine?
Yes.
All vaccines are created by man for a purpose. They’re not a free ticket to eat what we want and live like there’s no tomorrow.
Dedication to eating healthy, exercising, and studying God’s Word is still a must.
The immune system is only as healthy as you feed it every day.
Do we need to be concerned about our immune response if we’ve not had the Covid 19 vaccine?
Yes.
There’s no license to not be at your best everyday.
Eating healthy foods, according to the three principles taught in the Biblical Nutrition Academy, is paramount for your future health.
In addition, exercise keeps our lymphatic system at peak performance. Eating well and exercising regularly are both essential to overall health.
How To Build The Immune System Naturally
This is a physical and mental answer. Our body is an amazing design by a Creator, but health doesn’t magically occur.
We have to utilize our resources and make good choices for good health and to boost our natural immunity.
Those choices include:
1. Daily exercise. Walks, bike riding, kayaking, kickboxing, Zumba, etc., and weights. It’s important to get the heart rate up and strengthen muscles throughout the body.
3. Fresh is best. Eat local and real foods as much as possible. These build the strongest immune system. God-designed fruits and vegetables with antioxidants and polyphenols are immunity in green leaves and red berries.
4. Take quality supplements. While we can get many, if not most, of the nutrients our bodies need from the foods we eat, we often need to supplement certain vitamins and minerals to fulfill our bodies’ requirements for optimal health.
Does My Response To Covid Change With The Vaccine?
This question is hard to answer because there is much still to learn about the effects of this vaccine.
This is also why my desire is to help you understand your immunity is key to survival whether you get vaccinated against this disease or not.
Is It Possible To Be Fully Vaccinated Against Covid 19?
This is still under study.
The timeline of effectiveness of this vaccination isn’t completely understood. There is discussion of booster shots being required since the vaccine may only protect for about 8 months. This is a watch and wait situation.

Help! I'm pregnant. How do I Protect my Immunity Against Covid-19?
I’ve gotten this question quite a bit. The answer is simple: The same way you would without Covid-19 being a factor.
Top 5 Ways to Protect Yourself from Covid 19 While Pregnant
1. Avoid people who are sick.
2. Keep your immune system well maintained and nourished with God designed foods. No processed foods.
3. Stay hydrated with pure clean water. I recommend using the Water Drop Filter or other brand of healthy water.
4. Avoid all medications - over the counter and prescribed - if possible. Talk with your caregiver about this, yet you may need to be insistent. You have 9 months to build the healthiest baby and the baby does not need vaccines of any kind.
5. Speak God’s Word to your baby and sing His praises out loud. Your baby can hear you already!
5 Ways To Build The Immune System
1. Eat today for a healthy tomorrow.
Our everyday food choices determine the health of our immune system. Remember:
- Fresh is best
- Local is optimal
- Grass fed & free range on a real pasture are ideal
2. Test for Vitamin D and then adjust your intake of this essential vitamin.
It plays a key role in the body’s ability to fight Covid-19 infections, other coronavirus variants, as well as a variety of infections and diseases.
3. Lose weight.
It’s proven that overweight people have a less active immune system. Make it a priority to get within a healthy weight and BMI!
Food sensitivities can overwhelm the immune system. Let’s help it out by identifying problems and clearing them up. This journal will also help identify glucose intolerance, which is a prime problem with weight loss and immunity. This journal is important even if you’re fully vaccinated.
5. Meditate on God's Word.
This is key to understanding the effectiveness of God’s Word.
God is the only One who heals. Man can offer options, yet the Lord designed the body and He alone heals it. Surgery and medication can be very necessary, but God is the ultimate healer.
Speak His Word.
Pray His Word.
Trust His Word.
What Should I Do If I Get Sick?
There are many common sense steps to follow when a virus attacks your body. No matter what variant you’re infected with, the way to fight back is the same.
You can reduce symptoms and be back to your normal routine in short order by following a few simple tips:
1. Rest
God designed rest for us with a reason. We see the concept of rest from the beginning of the Bible to the end.
“Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
Therefore let’s make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following the same example of disobedience. Hebrew 4:11
My soul waits in silence for God alone; From Him comes my salvation. Psalm 62:1
The 7th day of the week was designed to rest. The year of Jubilee was designed as a rest.
By the seventh day God completed His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because on it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.Genesis 2:2-3
So the people rested on the seventh day. Exodus 16:30
Rest prepares us for the next event. It also helps the body to recover.
We recover from a busy week by spending time with God on the Sabbath.
Rest while battling a virus allows all systems in the body to work full time on healing.
Rest includes taking a break from these as well:
- being active
- exercise
-work
-stressful activities
- stressful people
2. Fast
Fasting is similar to rest. It allows our natural digestive system to take a break so the liver, lower GI, and other organs can focus on removing all toxins from the body.
We consider viruses toxins since they're foreign bodies and not wanted.
Stop eating any processed foods. Actually, I would love for you to give them up entirely. Especially during this time of healing.
Processed foods require extensive energy of the body since they lack key nutrients. Avoiding processed foods and only eating real fruits and veggies bring quicker healing.
The Daniel Fast is an excellent option to help the body rest and rejuvenate.
Not eating at all and only fluids is a good option for short term fasts. Some people do a water-only fast, while others drink only natural juice and smoothies. This can be done a day, or 2, or even 3.
As always, it’s best to do an extreme fast under the supervision of a medical professional.
3. Hydrate
Fluids are important. A dehydrated body heals slower. Fluids are necessary to keep the blood volume at peak performance. They also contribute to removal of cellular toxins.
Fevers, headaches, and body aches all require adequate liquids for quicker healing. Add salt and electrolytes to the water to keep the potassium and other elements at peak levels.
Eat To Live - Foods To Build Immunity
Nutrition may seem counterproductive since fasting is number 2. However, foods high in Vitamin C can help the body heal. I recommend my family consume organic citrus fruits and vegetables which contain lots of Vitamin C.
Also, a fast can be fruits and veggies only.
In addition, these foods have been shown to have success in helping the body achieve a return to health quicker and fight the symptoms of virus reactions:
- Apple Cider Vinegar (3 Tablespoons 3X/day)
- Echinacea tea
- Elderberry Syrup
- Green tea with ginger, honey, and turmeric
- Zinc
See! God has provided an abundant amount of natural resources for aiding our immune systems!
How Does The Bible Diet Help With Our Immune System
The Bible Diet is eating foods God called good for us and eating them as close to His design as possible. This keeps us away from foods that tax the immune system.
The foods we eat account for over 75% of what contributes to many illnesses, obesity, and cancer.
I’ve seen many people end their pain and inflammation just by changing their diet to foods God created for our benefit. Pain is a sign we are not eating well.
Our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. Let's feed it well so we can serve efficiently for a long time.
Build Immune System Naturally
People are living longer today than in much of the past, yet the need for medication is skyrocketing.
The life being lived now is less productive than it was 50 years ago. Living to the age of 90 yet taking 15 prescriptions and being unable to do anything except move from the doctor’s office to the couch is not living life abundantly.
Instead, eat real food from a God who loves you and eat without food addictions and you will see a great increase in the immune system to help prevent many viruses and bacteria infections.
A friend shared with me about her mother-in-law who at the age of 76 was very ill. They were getting her affairs in order. The family talked to her about changing her diet to the 3 principles we teach here and she lived an abundant life till the age of 96!
A doctor told another friend of mine in her 20's she had ovarian cancer and would never have children. She chose to take a different approach to her severe illness. Fourteen years later she walked into the doctor’s office cancer free and pregnant!
God's Design for Immunity
God designed the immune system, so He must know what’s best to feed it. And God does not need a white lab coat.
Doctors can be very helpful and there are times and places where some medications are appropriate, but God not only designed our bodies to fight disease, but He also created what we need to engage in that battle in the rest of His creation.
We have at our disposal a smorgasbord of healthy foods containing all the vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients our bodies need to fight infection and disease and instead thrive.
Let’s thrive together! No matter what disease, what illness, or what other invaders try to attack.
Set up all your defenses and arm yourself with all the available weapons against this coronavirus and all the other invaders out there seeking to steal, kill and destroy.
Instead, enjoy the abundant life - physically and spiritually - Jesus came to give!

What Is A Fast?
During fasting, you abstain from drink, food, or some sort of entertainment for a specific amount of time to focus on God.
There are different kinds of fast.
Intermittent Fasting: Eating or drinking only during a given amount of time, (such as between 11 a.m - 4 p.m)
Absolute Fasting: No food or water
Partial Fasting: Eliminating certain types of food and drink
Standard Fasting: Only water
What Is a Daniel Fast?
The Daniel Fast is a partial fast based on the Daniel's fasting experiences in the Bible.
Nebuchadnezzar, the Babylonian king, took the prophet Daniel and other promising young people captive from Israel to Babylon to be trained in Babylonian culture and literature. The king’s food is where Daniel drew the line.
Daniel’s fasting is recorded in the book of Daniel multiple times. The Daniel fast focuses on the elimination of the rich foods and wine of the king that surrounded him.
“But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.”
Daniel and his friends fasted to protect themselves from being tempted by Babylonian culture. To remind them they were the people of God.
Below we will discuss what is common practice to eat, and what not to eat on the Daniel fast according to the Bible.
Set Yourself Up For Success - What is Your Daniel Fast Goal?
The spiritual benefits of fasting can break strongholds in your life. Mark 9:29: “And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.”
It can bring us spiritual clarity, allow us to be more sensitive to hearing God, and bring us satisfaction while drawing close in our dependence on God.
It is not just things of this world that we as followers of Christ live off of.
Matthew 4:4: “Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
God wants us to demonstrate our commitment to Him.
Take the following steps to show Him your intent.
Determine in your heart and mind that you are going to fast.
Did you know Daniel actually stuck to this “simple diet of vegetables and water” for three years?
According to the Bible, that was the time frame set by King Nebuchadnezzar for their training before they entered the King’s service.
Three years of steadfast commitment to not defile himself by eating the king’s food or drinking his wine.
Daniel 1:5 “And the king appointed for them a daily provision of the king’s delicacies and of the wine which he drank, and three years of training for them, so that at the end of that time they might serve before the king.”
“King’s delicacies” ... I love that; it perfectly describes our western culture and food and beverage obsession.
I struggled to rely on God and was dependent on food for years!
Learning the spiritual balance of God’s healthy living plan from the Bible and fasting was key in breaking my addiction to chocolate.
Those addictions/idols in my life are tough to break, fasting is so important for any season, which can help to increase our reliance on God and his strength instead of our dependence on food and sugary drinks.
When participating in the Daniel fast, there are two-time frames most choose to engage in: 10 and 21 Days.
Both duration of time are in Daniel, 10 days in chapter 1 and 3-weeks way down the timeline in Daniel 10.
Most bridge the two separate food do’s and don’ts together, which is the most common Daniel fast practice.
10 Day Fasting Plan from Daniel 1
These Bible verses give us a general understanding of Daniel’s first 10-day fast plan.
Daniel 1:12 “Please test your servants for ten days, and let us be given some vegetables to eat and water to drink.”
The King James Version uses an older English word Pulse which when you understand it’s definition, it further clarifies what foods to eat and what foods to not include on the Daniel fast. (7)
What is Pulse in the Book of Daniel
“and let them give us pulse to eat,” Daniel 1:12 KJV
Pulse in the book of Daniel is herbs or vegetables grown from seeds: (8) which is why a Daniel fast consists of a vegetable diet.
The specifics of what “pulses” - just vegetables alone or including other foods such as fruits and grains is between you and the Lord.
Additional Daniel fast guidelines are expounded when he is talking about his 3-week fast.
“In those days I, Daniel, had been mourning for three entire weeks. I did not eat any tasty food, nor did meat or wine enter my mouth, nor did I use any ointment at all, until the entire three weeks were completed.”
However, implementing too many rules on a fast can distract us from its true intention.
Please note that these are guidelines and it’s up to you to define the parameters of your fast.
How you approach and carry out the Daniel fast is between you and the Lord, let the spirit guide you on what is and isn’t right for your fast.
One thing is clear, Daniel did not eat any meat or drink wine during his fast, other parts of the fast can be more subjective, such as how vegetables are defined. So you may or may not include grains and fruits.
Likewise with tasty foods. Fruits and vegetables can be very tasty! So you will have to decide what you will and will not eat.
Here are suggestions and guidelines to types of foods to eat on the Daniel fast.

Daily Devotions and Prayer Intentions While Fasting Increase Reliance on Jesus
Set yourself up to succeed on the Daniel fast. Even though you are doing this for spiritual reasons don’t think you will not be tempted – you will. Satan will make sure of it.
Turning your problems over to God through prayer and letting Him take control over these areas will bring this freedom and a great yoke will be lifted from your shoulders. Discipline always has its rewards. It will be difficult before it is easy.
Pray Before You Start Your Fast
Before you fast, begin with a prayer. It is important to ask for strength during the fast. The Holy Spirit is within us and we can depend on Him as our body begins to respond to the fasting process.
Set aside some time during the usual meal time to pray and meditate on a favorite scripture passage.
Here’s the verse that launched the healthy living from the Bible journey for me.
If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction.
I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have given me life.
As your feet hit the floor each morning give a shout of rejoicing for the great insight God will give you today.
Continue to praise Him all day long, throughout this short journey and afterwards.
Psalm 118:24: “This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
The purpose of this fast is to draw closer to God through prayer and Bible study and to abstain from certain food products for discipline. Commit to pray for those who are joining you on this physical and spiritual journey too.
As your feet hit the floor each morning give a shout of rejoicing for the great insight God will give you today.
Continue to praise Him all day long, throughout this short journey and afterwards.

Health Benefits of Pumpkin
Did you know that pumpkins are loaded with antioxidants such as beta-carotene, which gives this vegetable that lovely orange color? Beta-carotene is essential for keeping your eyes healthy. It aids in the prevention of degenerative eye diseases. Aside from eye health, this antioxidant is also essential for reducing your risk of developing a number of cancer types, and it also protects you against heart disease and asthma.
Eating pumpkins daily also help slow down the aging process and prevent diabetes.
If you are trying to lose or maintain your weight, pumpkin can help you with that as it is rich in fiber that keeps you satiated longer – so you won’t feel the need to binge-eat and snack more often.
Pumpkin is an important source of potassium. This mineral helps minimize sodium intake, which aids in the treatment of high blood pressure or hypertension. With a good amount of potassium in your body, this also reduces your chances of suffering from a stroke, protects you from muscle mass loss, and preserves the density of your bones.
Ways to Eat More Pumpkin
There are so many ways for you to enjoy eating pumpkins daily!
In addition to boiling and steaming your pumpkins, you can also make pumpkin puree that is not only rich and creamy but also an excellent substitute for oil. If your recipe calls for butter or oil, simply replace these ingredients with pumpkin puree to make it healthier.
To make pumpkin puree, I prefer to steam or boil my cut-up pumpkins until they are tender. Be sure to remove the seeds and the innards, as well as the skin. Then, you can puree the pumpkin in your blender or food processor. It’s that easy and quick! You can make large batches and freeze in servings for use throughout the year.
Baked goodies taste much more amazing with pumpkins because they are sweet vegetables that are loaded with lots of flavor. This is why in this pumpkin chocolate chip muffins recipe, we will be using pumpkins to make this lovely treat even better-tasting and more nutritious than ever!
And here’s a bonus… To add a nice crunch to these healthy pumpkin muffins, you may top it off with granola. This low-fat, quick and crunchy topping can be made coarse, or you can grind it in your blender. Then, top your muffins before baking. Check out my special granola recipe right here.

Very easy to make, just mix and bake! A wonderful holiday recipe for a nutritious fiber-filled breakfast or dessert!
I have a lot of clients who ask me, “Is bread bad for you?” I understand the confusion, given current health crises in our culture and books warning people about wheat. That’s why today I’m tackling the question and expanding on: Is wheat bad? Wheat in the Bible & debunking myths about wheat.
Wheat has been demonized in recent history as one of the worst types of carbs. The claim is that wheat is as harmful and addictive as drugs like heroin and crack.
If we examine this declaration just on the surface, we realize right off there’s something crumbly about it. Yes, we see massive obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. However, we don’t see people selling everything they have, breaking the law, or harming loved ones to get wheat.
“Well, that’s because it’s legal,” someone might say.
Still, we don’t have life-controlling cravings. Not that our bodies don’t desire more of what we give it, but the appetite for wheat is nothing even close to that of drugs like those mentioned above.
In addition, there’s no scientific data or studies to support these claims. Those declaring that wheat is harmful don’t have the science or evidence to back them up.
When one takes a look at the studies used by certain authors to try to make wheat the enemy, the conclusions and results of those studies in no way show what some people allege.
Is Wheat Bread Unhealthy?
Quite the contrary, grains, including wheat, are the most nutrient dense food groups available. Wheat and other grains are some of the most healthful foods for good gut health, which we know is essential for overall health.
While there is a small percentage of people who are genetically gluten intolerant, the majority of people can not only tolerate gluten and wheat, but actually benefit from wheat being a regular part of the diet.
When it’s healthy wheat, that is.
Not only is whole wheat bread made from wheat berries NOT harmful, it’s BENEFICIAL to your body!
Wheat Benefits
Wheat berries include a variety of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Just to name a few, whole wheat berries have an abundant supply of iron, manganese, and zinc, all of which help boost our immune system.
They also have Vitamin E, which has been proven to help protect against a variety of cancers.
Then there’s the B vitamins. These are aid with digestion, brain health, mood stabilization, sleep quality, and slowing down the aging process.
I definitely want more of all of those! Don’t you?
Check out my video where I talk more about the benefits of wheat.
Whole Wheat Flour
There’s a major difference between super-processed (and even bleached!) wheat and this amazing grain in its natural form.
Once again, we’re back to the 3 Principles of Healthy Living, the second of which is eating foods as closely as possible to the way God created them.
It’s not wheat that’s the problem, it’s what we’ve done to it.
Many (not all) people who thought they were wheat or gluten intolerant, find that they can eat wheat with no problems when it’s freshly milled.
Not only is wheat nutritious, but is a storable food when left whole and intact - an important note for those who plan and prepare for major upheavals in life.
Unfortunately, the concept of easy, convenient, and quick when it comes to food sucks in and traps people.
Grocery store shelves hold dozens of varieties of bread, but processing strips almost all of them of their naturally occurring nutrients.
Take the 40-Day Transformation Course
God's recipe for EXCELLENT HEALTH is where HEALING BEGINS.
Nature does this all the time. A simple basic knowledge of biology and genetics demonstrate that plants in nature fertilize each other with like kinds through seeds and pollen.
Hybrids of wheat created by scientific methods fit within good food, just like wheat in the Bible, because the process mimics how God created vegetation to work.
But you may still wonder, what’s the most ancient wheat grain? What was the wheat in the Bible?
The oldest wheat is Einkorn.
The trail from Einkorn to what we have available is a fun journey!
- Einkorn crossed with another grass or grain and produced Emmer.
- Emmer crossed naturally to produce spelt, which cross pollinated too.
- The process has continued throughout time up through today.
The goal of scientifically crossbred wheat is to produce stronger, more viable strains. However, there are claims that the man-instigated hybrid wheat has less protein and more gluten.
Discover more about einkorn wheat in this video.
Gluten Intolerance
Before we dive into this, let’s talk about what gluten is. Gluten is a culinary term for the stretchy substance that forms when wheat flour is hydrated.
This stretchiness can occur by simply adding some water to flour and letting it sit for a while. Try it out!
Wheat's unique series of protein that causes it to become stretchy when liquid is added makes it unique from all other grains.
Gluten isn’t something that’s been added by man. Gluten results naturally from how God created wheat to behave.
Wheat has been bred to have a higher content of protein, but the growing season - or amount of rain - impacts the protein content more than the strain. The more the rain, the lower the protein content and “softer” the wheat.
Again, we get into a problem when we highly process foods. There is a difference between the gluten in bread found in stores and gluten in freshly milled grains.
What Are Whole Grains?
Let’s dig a little deeper to understand why.
Grains have 3 components:
1 - Bran (outer)
2 - Germ (inner)
3 - Endosperm
The bran and germ are very coarse, so during commercial milling these parts of the grain are separated out, leaving only the endosperm.
The endosperm is protein and starch. So, it has the components needed as flour to make bread.
However, the majority of the nutrients found in grain are located in the bran and germ. Vitamins, minerals, fiber, phytochemicals, fatty acids, enzymes, good organisms are all found here.
This is why white flour isn’t healthy. It’s missing all these nutrients!
God never intended us to eat those proteins and starch without the fiber and other nutrients to help our bodies process them properly.
Instead, He created the perfect food, good for us in its original form. It goes against the majority of our culture and our “quick and easy” lifestyle, but milling whole grain at home really is best.
This is the only way to get all of the nutrients God infused in wheat for our good.
I hope I’ve helped make it clear. Whole grain wheat makes the healthiest bread because God designed it to have almost every essential nutrient we need to live and thrive!
What About Whole Grain Bread?
If commercial plants milled the entire grain, these would be great. However, the machines are set up to separate the bran and germ at the beginning of the process. So, to get “whole grain” flour, they have to be added back in.
This doesn’t sound like getting as close to God created wheat to me.
Processed wheat is NOT the same as wheat in the Bible.
There’s no telling what the percentage or ratios are.
Also, this is another area where reading labels is important. Many “whole grain” breads have gluten listed as an ingredient.
Now, we discussed that gluten is a culinary term for how flour reacts when liquid is added to it, so how is gluten an ingredient?
Scientists have figured out how to isolate the protein sequence that causes the stretchy reaction and can add that protein sequence into milled flour.
Again, this is a process of trying to add things back in that were included originally, but in different amounts and ratios.
God created wheat to have the perfect balance of protein, starch, fiber, and all its other nutrients. Man can try to mimic His perfect creation, but will never succeed.
When we switch to true whole grain bread, it won’t be a detriment to our health, but instead help us attain optimal health. And this allows us to be about God’s will and mission for our lives.
Wheat In The Bible
Spelt and barley are mentioned in the Bible. These are types of wheat (as are rye, durem, kamut). Wheat itself is also mentioned.
Wheat and barley are specific to biblical feasts and celebrations.
Bread was also a part of everyday life for the Israelites, Jesus, and His followers.
Jesus broke bread with the disciples, other followers, and the curious on a regular basis. It was such an essential part of life, He used bread as a metaphor to show people our need for him.
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; the one who comes to Me will not be hungry, and the one who believes in Me will never be thirsty.” John 6:35
“I am the bread of life.” John 6:48
“I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread also which I will give for the life of the world is My Flesh.” John 6:51
Can we live without wheat?
Yes. But we don’t have to. Nor is it recommended for people who don’t have a genetic gluten sensitivity like celiac disease.
When we take Scripture in it’s unadulterated form - meaning reading, studying, and meditating on it for ourselves - we have what we need for an abundant life.
When we eat wheat in its unadulterated form - freshly milled - we have what we need for abundant health.
Of course, that doesn’t mean we gorge ourselves on bread or eat it to the exclusion of all the other wonderful array of garden vegetables and fruits God’s given us. (See principle 3!)
It means that fresh, living, whole grain bread is a part of a balanced diet.
Is Wheat Bread Good for you?
We’re back to this question. I hope you can echo my enthusiastic, “YES!”
It’s clear that wheat is not the evil entity it’s been made out to be. Wheat today is not that different from wheat in the Bible.
No, the bread we eat today isn’t the same bread as from biblical times (or the 2000 years since, up until the industrial revolution). However, that’s because of processing, not the wheat itself.
It’s clear, both scientifically and biblically, that whole grain wheat bread is good for us.
We can praise the Lord for His perfect design and His love for us in all of His creation, in which He’s given us everything we need for a vibrant, healthy life.
Let’s celebrate!
Thank God for wheat in the Bible and wonderful bread today. Then check out this recipe to share the wealth with your family, neighbors, or friends.
***Before I close, I want to give a special thank you to Sue Becker of the Bread Beckers for her consistent and faithful commitment to educating me and others on the truths about wheat and God’s design for it. Thank you, Sue, for all you do!
Years ago when I started my health journey, I dug into Scripture to see what God said about food. I was amazed at the smorgasbord of references to food and have been sharing it ever since. Still, people have lots of questions, which is why today I bring you the Bible Diet questions and answers - everything you want to know.
These are questions people have asked in the Biblical Nutrition Academy Facebook page, where individuals gather to glean healthy living information and support.
I love interacting with people and getting to encourage them on their journey to health, vitality, and enthusiasm for life!
I do that here on my blog, through videos, and courses meant to bless you again and again. Just like a bread starter, the information keeps growing and producing and multiplying.
I hope to see you there, but for now, let’s talk about the Bible Diet!
Bible Diet Questions And Answers
Here are some of the common Bible diet questions people have asked me - and here are my answers to these!
1. What does healthy eating look like?
This is a great place to start, because, after all, the Bible Diet is all about healthy eating. To live our best and be our best, we have to put the best things in our bodies.
What I like to say is that healthy eating looks like a plate offering.
We start by taking a look at what’s on our plate.
Do the foods build healthy cells or do they cause imbalance?
Will they make you feel good or will you be in pain for days after eating it?
Are they more about the pleasure of the moment or feeling great for a lifetime?
Does the plate have foods that God created for us?
Does it have food that will help you focus on God’s plan for your life?
Do you know who Corrie Ten Boom is? (If not, I highly recommend reading her books.)
In brief, she was a victim of Nazi Germany and was held in a concentration camp for the crime of helping Jews. We can only imagine the horrors she experienced. However, she never lost hope or faith.
After World War II, she spent the rest of her life sharing her story and God’s love.
Once, she said that every time someone said words of encouragement, she pictured herself receiving a rose. At the end of the event, she’d envision herself offering that bouquet of roses up to the Lord and saying, “This is for you. You are the one who brought me through.”
Bible Diet - An Offering
Today, and every day, we have the opportunity to look at our plate each meal and consider it an offering of gratitude to the Lord.
If we’ve answered the questions above with affirmative, positive answers, we can take that plate and offer it up to God.
Then say, “Thank you, Lord, for helping me overcome my overeating, my food addictions, my doubt this would work, my fear of eating healthy. I offer this plate to you to show I want to serve you as long and as best I can.” (Out loud if you’re comfortable, silently if not. Either way, God can hear you.)
We’ll get to the principles of healthy eating very quickly, but it always starts with our perspective and mindset.
So, start there. Start by considering the food you eat as an offering to the Lord. If we’re eating out of our emotions or to feed our fleshly desires, then it’s for us, not the Lord.
And EVERYTHING we do can be an offering for the Lord, even our eating.
Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all things for the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31
2. Is there a place where we can find the full details of your Bible Diet?
I have been teaching the Bible Diet for years, only under different titles until recently.
The words “Bible Diet” encompass everything I teach. Yet coming soon will be the release of my latest book – The Bible Diet - with complete biblical references and application.
Until then, the steps I share consistently apply to your question:
3 Bible Diet Principles
1. Eat the foods God called food for you.
He loves you more than you can even comprehend. Therefore, He gave you a complete menu to choose from with the most delicious foods ever.
In Genesis, God created and then declared what is good.
Good in Hebrew means excellent of its kind, valuable in estimation.
This means there is nothing man can design that competes or compares to the nutritional value of God’s design.
‘Now the challenge is to find it. That's where the Treasures of Healthy Living Bible Study helps. In this tool, I walk you through the different food groups and aspects of healthy eating and how to implement the Bible Diet in your life today and every day thereafter.
2. Eat the foods as close to God’s original design as possible.
Altered foods lead to altered lives. Processed foods lead to processed medications. Good foods God designed lead to a life – excellent of its kind.
3. Don’t let any food become an addiction.
When our daily menu includes addictive, highly processed foods, our brains and bodies begin to crave those things. Man’s design of food encourages us to eat more beyond what is needed for health.
Emotions also play a strong role, as we live in a culture with abundant food and don’t rely on it strictly for survival.
Commercials, billboards, and other advertisements have us seeking to fill our bellies based on our eyes and emotions. We come to rely on food for comfort and fulfillment, instead of relying on the Lord.
This is an addiction.
Lord, break us free from it!
3. How can I obey God more with my diet?
Obeying God is about being responsive to what He’s calling you to do.
And yes, God spoke to me many times about my health and eating.
And yes, my eating and health were at an impasse.
Something had to change.
Either I was going to call God a liar, sticking with old thinking of, “I can’t lose weight. Let me have my ice cream.”
Or I had to change my heart and let God show me His love and grace, even in the area of eating, and adopt new thinking. No longer would I live as if tomorrow doesn’t matter, but instead I’d start living as if my health was necessary.
We can serve God longer and with more energy when we eat healthy foods.
We can share the Gospel with more vigor when we are not being lazy on the couch in front of the TV, hoping someone will go out and change the world.
That doesn’t mean we always do it perfectly. Or that the principles become inflexible rules that run our lives. It means we adopt a way of approaching food that’s for our good and God’s glory. A very contradictory stance to the majority of culture.
4. What are the foods God intended us to eat?
This is a beautiful question. God’s Word is full of stories of food and also direct communication with us in the form of: eat this, don’t eat that.
Eating the foods He called good brings us health and healing. Eating the food He called unclean, bloody, sacrificial, etc. causes problems.
Beyond that, eating foods that are lab experiments are always in contrast to His design.
The Treasures of Healthy Living Bible Study is perfect to answer this question. It covers all foods mentioned in Scripture from Genesis to Revelation. From the Garden of Eden to the end of Revelation where the Tree of Healing appears.
Scripture is very clear on herbs, vegetables, fruits, meats (clean and unclean), and fish. Other foods mentioned are dairy, milk specifically, and honey.
The Treasures of Healthy Living Bible study walks you through many of these scriptures, but you can always start where I did - taking note of every reference to food items in the Bible and what God said about it.
With a heart to learn His Word and life principles, He will show you the way.
5. How can I know if I'm hungry or using food to satisfy something else?
Emotional hunger is typically a call for food or other stimulants.
True physical hunger is preceded by hunger pangs, mood swings, growling.
If you have eaten in the last 2-3 hours then you most likely aren’t hungry, unless of course you only ate a bowl of iceberg lettuce.
If you eat 2-3 times per day and include high fiber and quality protein, you should be able to go at least 4 hours in between eating. Eating before that time has passed is most often emotional or spiritual hunger.
There are no hard and fast rules.
The bottom line is you can wait for true hunger. And remember, hunger is not an enemy! It’s okay to be hungry.
If you want food, wait 1 minute and evaluate if you’re still hungry.
Then wait 10 minutes. Let your mind answer the question: Am I hungry or do I just have a desire to eat?
Waiting, pausing, is a discipline everyone needs to develop.
We live in a generation that breeds impulsivity.
Our poor health is the greatest consequence of this impulse eating.
Commercials are designed to help us avoid discipline.
By disciplining ourselves to delay gratification - whether with food or other desires - we train ourselves for godliness.
Rather, discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness;1 Timothy 4:7
Asking this question exhibits a desire to do better and seek righteousness before food. That’s the first and most important step on the journey to healthy living!
6. How can I overcome gluttony God's way?
God’s way is to admit there’s a god in your life and it’s food.
Once we recognize this sin, yes it is a sin, we can then take the steps to do a complete turn away from this type of eating and start giving Him credit for the release from this food addiction and the healing that comes with it.
I interviewed Dr Michael Brown, who was healed from food addictions. He said it was harder to be set free from food addictions than heroin. Yet when he set his mind to do it, he lost 85 pounds in 6 months.
6 years later he is still at his best health ever. Food no longer has a grip on him.
It's now nourishment, not comfort.
Food is now cellular nourishment, not a cell to be trapped in.
This is not a quick answer, yet it can be summarized by what I’ve already shared.
Overcoming Gluttony
The first question to ask in seeking to overcome gluttony is why you’ve been overweight.
We need to identify why we’re overweight before we can change it permanently.
What happened in the past that sent you to food?
- Was there a brain injury?
- Did you experience emotional trauma?
- Was there an illness that altered your microbiome?
- Were you on a lot of antibiotics at one time?
Discovering the answers to these questions are necessary for complete healing.
And after looking back, we then look forward and ask questions about the future.
- Where do you want to be?
- What are you willing to let go of to get there?
- What do you believe about God’s intervention in your life?
- How much do you love who you are?
Once we have these answers, we can start making the shifts in our thinking and eating to make this a part of the past. And you can finally say, “That’s not me anymore.”
This is exactly why we have the Inner Circle, to help you navigate these questions and answers. For just $67 a month you get coaching 4 times a week – every week!

7. How do I start the Bible Diet? The journey seems so big.
I asked this same question at the beginning of my journey.
First of all, there are two steps: first is physical and food, the second is spiritual.
Before we dive deeper, let’s review the 3 principles.
1. Eat the foods God called good for us to eat.
2. Eat these foods as close to His design as possible.
3. Don’t let any food become an addiction.
The Bible Diet - Physical & Food
My husband and I started this new journey which we still are enjoying today by using the Daniel Fast as our take off platform. It let us learn to enjoy less animal foods and focus more on healthy fresh vegetables, fruits and whole grains.
Having a starting point is also very helpful.
The Daniel Fast isn’t required to get started on the Bible Diet, but serves as a wonderful tool that helps us get our mind and body in a place to start receiving blessings both spiritually and physically.
The Daniel Fast focuses on eating foods close to God's design.
Realize this is a new journey, but it’s simple if we keep it simple.
Start with small steps, like eliminating the processed food in your house and adding more fresh fruits and vegetables to the grocery list.
The Bible Diet - Spiritual
A great place to start is to take time to evaluate where your emotions are in reference to food.
This will be a journey (one reason this is a main focus of the 40 Day Transformation Course), but even an initial evaluation helps.
One thing I recommend is sitting down and writing a letter to God. Share where you might find difficulty letting go of previous eating habits and beliefs.
He knows your struggles and areas of weakness, but there is freedom and healing in taking them to Him.
Pray over that list and then reword the items as a praise.
If impulsiveness is an issue, write out gratitude for the Lord giving you thoughtfulness.
If there’s hurt or trauma impacting how you eat, thank God for the healing He provides.
Don’t hold anything back.
God will help you. He delivers His own when they seek Him with all their heart.
When you are ready to see Him at work 100% in your life, it happens.
Typically we don’t see results because we’re holding back an area of our life or not recognizing a food addiction.
These two answers are part of a journey - not a one day event.
Imagine the mental advantage they would have, plus the energy to serve the Lord.
When I started this I was 100% focused on getting results fast to prove to the doctor God’s way of eating worked.
There have been times I’ve strayed from my best eating habits and felt the consequences. Tired, unable to focus, and not feeling pretty.
Last night, I was at a restaurant with friends. It was a BBQ place and smelled delicious.
I ordered the salad. Everyone else had barbeque.
Yet one person mentioned my salad. He said something like this: “When I eat a healthy salad like that I sleep like a baby. When I eat,” (as he pointed to his plate of BBQ , baked beans, and garlic toast), “I am up all night in pain.”
So to answer this question: It’s all up to you.
If you desire to feel great, look great, have energy to serve well, then staying on track will be much easier.
Following the Bible Diet, as with many other things, is also easier as you practice it and make it a way of life.
9. How can I find consistency in my intake of healthy foods to maintain a mind receptive to God’s leading, and get rid of the backsliding spirit ( nutritionally)?
This question is not about food. It’s about spiritual desire.
The same is true for you. When you’re struggling with food, you’re struggling with Jesus. You’re struggling with wanting to be in control and not release that control and enjoy the blessed life God has planned.
We also teach several tools such as our advantage cards, advantage jar, and our Hunger Satisfied Journal. These tools help us succeed in this area of consistency.
If you’d like to know more, and try a yummy appetizer to these programs, I suggest starting with the 7 Steps to Amazing Biblical Health - our FREE online resource.
Once that’s completed, sign up for the 40 Day Transformation Course. These two options will give you the tools to make this change both spiritually and physically.
From there you’ll be invited into the Inner Circle. That’s when we help you make those changes stick!
So let me encourage you to stop negotiating with yourself and make a decision.
10. How do I lose weight eating this way?
Recognizing our body's signals is the way we were intended to live.
In the biblical days people had celebrations involving feasting. However, there are also 20 verses on gluttony.
Food was not meant to consume us as it does today.
Eating foods God designed in their purest form is what makes any diet work.
Eating foods only when we’re hungry and stopping when we’re satisfied brings freedom to be at the weight we were created to be. Never overweight.
Too many times we eat because of addictions:
“I really love my ________________.”
Or we eat for fun.
“I love my popcorn and doritos when I watch TV.”
Or we eat because of habit.
Our bodies were created with the cues of hunger and satisfaction.
Today we have to learn these cues because we’ve deadened them through how and what we eat.
We must also heal the microbiome so the hormones ghrelin and leptin can work for us.
Too many people are leptin resistant, which means they'll have a difficult time learning hunger-satisfied cues.
They'll continue to struggle with weight.
We can change that, but it takes work.
The deeper we are in food addictions, the harder the climb out.
When I interviewed Dr. Michael Brown – from Ask Dr. Brown – he shared it was easier to overcome his heroin addiction than his food addiction. (You may remember this from question 6.)
Yet, it was possible.
He’s now gone 6 years free of food addiction. One of the greatest benefits he’s experienced is he no longer has frequent headaches, which he used to have at least 3 times a week.
So, was it worth it to eat this way? By all means, emphatically, YES!
Losing weight is very possible, and it will happen.
Stay focused and enjoy the journey.
11. I am trying my best to follow the Bible Diet for the last 18 months, rarely eating processed sugars and using honey or fruit sugar instead. I’ve settled on 2 meals a day. Yet, my weight is not going down at all, although my blood pressure is at acceptable levels now.
This is super. For your blood pressure to respond positively is a great marker.
Blood pressure is an indicator of healthy blood vessels, less risk of heart disease and other health challenges. This is no small feat for this to happen. Give yourself credit.
If you had blood work done prior to starting, you would be seeing more changes in that as well.
The weight is going to come down. Don’t give up!
There are a few places we can look for assistance in weight loss.
- See how much fiber you’re eating. Pay attention to it, even keeping a log for a while.
- Another factor that’s important is the health of your microbiome. Digestive enzymes are necessary for food to be metabolized well and therefore for weight loss to happen.
- Also what is happening with your measurements, or body fat index? Are you losing fat to gain muscle? This shows up in loss of inches, yet weight does not always change.
If you’ve tackled the healthy lifestyle and aren’t seeing the expected results, examine these factors and consider getting bloodwork done to make sure there aren’t other cellular or hormone-level influences prohibiting weight loss.
12. I fasted over a month off everything but grass-fed beef. One day I started again on addictive food and had to go fast again. Not so simple…
No, it's not so simple. Fasting is a blessing to our digestive system, as well as other systems in our body. It brings healing.
Yet, we can often sabotage our success and progress by going back to eating everything.
When ending a fast the best foods to bring in are high fiber, nutritious foods such as vegetables, fruits, legumes. These are necessary for building the microbiome.
I know I say that over and over, but that’s because all diseases begin and end in the digestive tract.
All food addictions begin in the mind, which is fed by the digestive system.
The Hunger Satisfied Journal, as I’ve also said before, is a fabulous tool for helping overcome addictions, as it helps us keep track of what we eat, how much we eat, and why we eat.
Information and support bathed in prayer are the keys to defeating poor eating habits.
That’s why those who join the BNA coaching group experience such success.

13. What should I eat? I am from India which is like the epicentre of Ayurveda and respective diets. They say eat local food etc. Is the Biblical diet applicable to me too??
Yes, the Bible Diet is not dependent on geography or cultural influences. It is equally true for each person.
I remember a true story of about missionary. The whole family was captured and held in a well-guarded hut. One day the mom prayed, “Lord, I look forward to the day when we are released and I would love a delicious glass of lemonade like we had from home.”
The next day they were released and when they arrived back in their village there was a package from home and in it was the exact lemonade she prayed for.
The point is, God knows your heart. He knows your desires.
When they are in agreement of His plan for you, blessings flow.
The family at home was prompted to send this lemonade in their care package 2 months prior, since that’s how long it can take a package to arrive.
God had worked it out.
There is no magic in this story. It’s just one of millions of examples that show the working of the Lord.
God can do the same in India (or anywhere!).
Pray for God to show you foods that will bring healing and blessings. Remember the 3 Principles!
Also – and more importantly – ask for Him to confirm when you hear the truth and also confirm when you are being taught a belief that’s contradictory to His Word.
When we seek the Earth for our healing, we are no longer serving our Lord. He is a jealous God. No one can serve two masters.
God will direct you to the foods that are best.
14. Where can I find your book?
I actually have 7 books. The Treasures of Healthy Living is the Bible study that unveils the Scripture from Genesis to Revelation and all the foods in between. You will find this on Amazon and all book sellers. There’s also a digital version.
The second book is the Treasures of Health Nutrition Manual. This is an encyclopedia of information about: foods, vitamins: health challenges: women's health, men's health, and much more.
Healthy Treasures Cookbook is a beginner cookbook. My husband said he’d eat healthy if it tasted good. This is a taste-good cookbook. It has recipes for all types of eaters.
Then I have the Daniel Fast book. This includes a 21 day menu, journal, recipes, plus how to prepare for and do the Daniel Fast.
Satisfied is a sweet and savory book about milling, baking and enjoying whole grains that God designed. Learn all about baking with freshly milled grains with, of course, recipes.
Proverbs 31 Prepper If you’ve always wanted to be prepared for job loss, power failure, political unrest, or anything that could interrupt the status quo, this book is for you. The Proverbs 31 Prepper helps you prepare for the uncertainty that happens in life!
15. So is the Bible diet a book? Or do you offer a specific Biblical Diet source?
You may have noticed that in the list of my books there isn’t one titled “The Bible Diet.”
This is coming soon, but all of my books and resources are based on the concepts of the Bible Diet. i.e. the 3 Principles of Healthy Living.
However, the Bible in itself is a diet lifestyle book.
What helps is to discover the nuggets of truths and let them marinade in your heart to make healthy decisions.
God directed the Israelites how to eat and when to eat. Those rules will still be a blessing to us today. Yet, we aren’t bound to those rules for salvation.
God provided His people with these instructions because He intended for the Israelites to be healthy and blessed. Just as He desires for us today to be healthy and blessed.
16. Is there a Bible Study guide that walks through the Bible with weight loss?
When I was obese I asked the same question. I was depressed with my weight, I had accepted all the comments from other people to describe me as fat and I was ready to give up.
Yet, I knew the Bible had the answers although it was not clear to me at the time.
As I prayed, answers started showing up everywhere and most were in contradiction to God’s Word.
Then I was introduced to the teaching of Dr. Rex Russell and the 3 principles I’ve mentioned several times already. These timeless principles work and are trustworthy because they are 100% biblical.
I wrote the Treasures of Healthy Living Bible Study as a biblically-based place people could go to get good health information and grow both spiritually and experience better health.
Through this study numerous people have lost from 20 to 100 pounds. They have said goodbye to depression and anxiety.
The Treasures Bible Study was a fun book to write since it covers all the scriptures about food in the Bible. It helps people understand why grains are not the enemy.
It shows the value of herbs and the biblical stories to go with them.
Transform Your Life With The Bible Diet
The Bible Diet doesn’t fit the traditional definition of a diet. As with anything that brings lasting change, it is more of a lifestyle. One geared to bring you health and vitality physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
